Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Terry.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve been making art as long as I can remember. As a kid I started out by drawing all the time, then began painting when I was 14. My bedroom walls were great for learning how to paint murals! I took a few art classes here and there, but mostly learned by jumping in and getting advice from my older brother. I grew up in McKinney Tx, and have done several murals here in my home town at the public library, the Boys and Girls club, etc. Painting takes a lot of time and patience, but is something that I feel compelled to do and incomplete without.
Please tell us about your art.
Mural painting is most of what I do artistically. Drawing on paper, in Procreate and Sketchbook are a big part of that and usually geared towards a mural project. I love making art with mat board, paper, wood, etc. When creating stuff for myself, the focus is usually on nature: birds, leaves, insects. I think the biggest inspiration for me aside from the natural world, is other artists. Seeing the amazing things people have come up with and created is so energizing to me, it makes me want to get busy making something really cool.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Find a way to take what you love to make and put it in a public place, even if it’s a small random thing, people love to be surprised by something clever, fun to look at and uplifting. Definitely be original. If you can get something out in your own community, other artists who live around you are much more likely to find you! Once isn’t enough, it takes some time to figure out what people respond to, what works best. Posting it on social media of course will help. If you do this enough, over time there’s a cumulative effect and you almost can’t fail to find each other.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Murals that I’ve painted in public spaces are at the National Video game Museum in Frisco Texas, AMLI 5350 in Austin Texas, Roy and Hellen Hall Memorial public library in McKinney Texas and Summermoon Coffee in Frisco and Keller Texas. Visit my Instagram/Facebook page and or website, I’m always ready for the next project, big or small!
