Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Longoria.
Anthony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Even at a young age, I was aware of effects film, photographs and music had on me and became fascinated with how they were created. How all of these elements were spliced together to spark an emotion or a thought that resonated.
It wasn’t till after high school that I expressed interest in learning more about the production process. I really had no clue of where to start. All I knew is that I had these ideas and wanted to express them visually. I began to focus on video editing. Luckily, around this time digital editing became more accessible to amateur creators and was able to purchase my first editing machine. Big shout out to my mother who believed in me and helped get the tools I needed to continue. And with that, I began the arduous task of teaching myself how to structure images and music and dialogue in a way that told a story. Of course, at first, I was terrible. Regardless, I stuck with it because this was probably the first time in my life that I REALLY wanted to learn something this badly.
I worked with friends to create short-form videos and music videos and at first, of course, they were terrible. But at the time, to me at least, they were great. Now I look back and cringe. I began to refine my skills as a video editor and learned the nuances of shooting, lighting and structure.
At that point, I had some work under my belt and was fortunate to have the opportunity to produce music videos, promos and branding videos for businesses. I created a company, The Corner Creative. I work closely with artists and business to help promote the art and products that they believe in wholeheartedly.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it been an easy road. I feel like the biggest struggles were just the doubt in my creativity. There were a lot of times where I doubted my vision or the work I’d done. I still carry those doubts to this day, but there are always these little nuggets of assurance left at the right time that let me know to trust what’s inside of me to see it through and know that all of the time and the persistence really do pay off. Creating anything is not easy because it’s so personal and you are really putting yourself out there. Of course, there are always technical struggles in this business but the biggest, I think, is learning to curb creative doubt and trust your creative gut.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
The Corner Creative works with major brands and artists to creatively and effectively connect their message to the intended audience. We produce high-quality visuals for a range of media platforms including digital branding materials for ad campaigns, corporate culture pieces and artist profiles.
Currently, I’m producing a web series/podcast called Artists, Engineers & Entrepreneurs (ae squared) where we interview some of the country’s top CEO’s, artists and industry rabble-rousers and they tell us how they were able the reach the level of achievement, the successes and failures along the path that they took. I serve as a producer, technical director and editor for the series.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Definitely persistence. I know that when I first began I thought I knew it all and everything would just drop in my lap. This is not the case at all. It took many hard lessons and experience to be confident in what my abilities and put that knowledge into action. If I was in the position I am currently five years ago I wouldn’t be able to execute as efficiently and confidently as I am able to at this point. I needed to fail in order to gain the experience to move forward with the tools to be effective.
