Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Jones.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashleigh. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was 18 I was in a horrible car accident and wound up staying in the hospital for 8 days after having a spinal fusion in my back and shoulder surgery. After that accident, I decided I wanted to do something I love! I started working at a bakery in Dallas baking their cupcakes every morning and that eventually led to me decorating their cakes and I just fell in love with it. I really never knew at that time that I would end up owning my own bakery 14 years later.
About 3 1/2 years ago, after giving birth to my second daughter at 28, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When she was almost 8 weeks old I had a double mastectomy and then several reconstruction surgeries. I am now cancer free and I have taken away so many things from going through that. One thing that remained the same is my passion for what I do.
At that point, I was out of my home but I decided that no matter what I was going to open an actual storefront and 2 years later I did! I am so blessed to do what I love. I have a passion for weddings and everything that goes into it. Being able to create something beautiful for someone on the biggest day of their life means so much to me!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is anything ever a smooth road? Maybe for some people but definitely not me! My biggest struggle along the way was definitely being diagnosed with cancer and going through all of that while trying to take care of two babies and manage a business that involves physical labor. But I have so much support that I was able to push through that even stronger.
Sweet Somethings by Ashleigh – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sweet Somethings by Ashleigh is a small boutique bakery specializing in wedding and groom’s cakes. Wedding cakes are my absolute favorite but I also love making groom’s cakes and I also specialize in sculpted cakes.
What I’m proud of is the amount of love and effort that goes into each and every order. I’m proud that when clients come to my bakery they know they are getting the best and don’t have to worry about a thing!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is being able to actually love what you do. Success is achieving goals you set out to make. In my case opening a bakery was that goal. I think the minute you stop loving what you do, you stop being successful.
