Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Kidd.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the proud owner of ByCuddles where I specialize in custom creations. You dream and I design. I first started designing stuff for my daughter when she was two years old. Pinterest was just becoming popular and I wanted to be that Pinterest Mom that could have a super cute birthday party. I started looking at invites and found that Etsy charged $10 for a digital copy. The penny pincher that I am decided not to spend the money but to teach myself how to create an invitation. My first invitation turned out great and over the years, my skills have grown. I started designing party items for friends, from banners to invites, to photo props and much more. In August of 2017, my best friend encouraged me to take my crafty eye to the public and start sharing my love of design with other people.
At ByCuddles, I offer to design anything you can dream hence the slogan “You dream and I design.” To my surprise, my invitation creations didn’t take off, however, crocheting items for the holidays became very popular. Throughout the holidays, I started crocheting hundreds of items which helped me save for a Silhouette machine. I like to say I started my business with a ball of yarn and I am, to this day, a debt-free business. At the first of the year my business took off and it has grown significantly more than I could have ever dreamed of. The Lord has shown favor on my company and I am thankful for every order that comes through my door. So far, I have created over 25 logos for other small businesses, participated in 15 styled shoots for my wedding stationery and have created countless other projects. I am honored that people trust me with their vision. I try my absolute best to give my all to every project someone asks me to do and with a little bit of Pinterest inspiration, my projects come out more than the customer could have ever imagined.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since I have only been in business for a few short months, it is hard to know exactly what I would have changed. One of the biggest things I am figuring out as a business owner is a work-life balance. I truly love my customers and the projects they ask me to complete. I love crafting and the fact that I get to do it on somebody else’s budget is a win-win! 🙂 However, with my business growing rapidly, it is a priority for me to value both my customers and also my family. I am learning this sensitive balance and am thankful that my customers are patient with me as my business grows and I still provide them with amazing customer service.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ByCuddles – what should we know?
I feel that ByCuddles is different from other companies because I have a graphic designer eye that most other people don’t. I have an art style and when you visit my website, you can quickly see my work. Since my mind is crafty and I have many different avenues of expressing that creativity through design, I can offer many services that other companies can’t. I hope for people to know my company as the one-stop shop for everything. My goal is to one day have people say “oh check out ByCuddles. You dream and she will design.” I am starting to see my customers reference this saying and they help their friends find one company that can help them in many different ways. One of the biggest things I am proud of to date is my skills in graphic design. As a self-taught graphic artist, seeing the things that my customers dream come into reality through my art is the most rewarding accomplishment I can have.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The biggest characteristic of my success is how I care for my customers. I go above and beyond to hear their dream. I help them dig deep to pull out exactly what they have envisioned. With a little bit of creativity and a lot of communication, we can bring about their dreams. They dream and I design. My customers leave reviews all the time about how responsive, easy and fast I am to work with. These three characters bring about a success to ByCuddles that I could have never imagined.
