Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Biedebach.
Ashlyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a love for pregnancy and the miracle of birth… my first word was “baby!” I knew I wanted to be a Certified Nurse Midwife after shadowing a local midwife in my home town and went on to graduate with my Bachelor’s in Nursing from Texas A&M University. I work now as Registered Nurse for a birth center here in Denton when not ‘doula-ing’! I heard about the Birth Boot Camp certification for doulas through a coworker and attending the training in 2017. I have loved every minute of this new journey and can’t wait to see what is next!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been interesting starting my own business! At first, I was very hesitant to market myself and was unsure of my skills as a doula. As I progressed and began meeting with providers, I began to grow more confident in myself and my business. A new business can be hard to get off the ground, the hours of time spent on marketing materials and hundreds of miles driven can attest to that. But, overall it has been such a joyous experience. I have learned, struggled, grown and persevered. I love what I do!
By The Brook Birth Doula – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
By The Brook Birth Doula came about from my last name meaning. I began my business through my vision and mission to impact pregnant mothers and families for the better. I love making a difference in people’s lives and feel specifically called to my niche of pregnant woman. As a doula, I provide specific education, emotional and physical support during labor and birth and so much more! I love bringing my education and experience as a Registered Nurse into the birthing space and helping woman understand and make the best choices for their family and their baby. Did I mention I LOVE what I do? It is such a privilege and honor to be let into intimate spaces and birthdays! I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career thus far has been the responses I have received. Hearing from a mom or a care provider that my presence made a difference in labor is SO rewarding. Knowing that, what I am doing and the care I am providing is actually soothing, comforting and calming is very humbling and special.
