Today we’d like to introduce you to Aysha Moosa.
Aysha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started over six years ago when I was planning my wedding. My then fiancé, now husband, and I both love dessert and I knew I wanted our guests to enjoy a variety of sweet treats. I wanted to have a dessert table that encompassed all of our favorite desserts, included personalization and incorporated our wedding colors. So, I began working with a couple of bakers to order personalized treats, I bought bulk sweet treats, décor, jars, trays and stands and drew out the entire setup just the way I had envisioned. I had everything delivered to our reception venue and had three of my bridesmaids execute my vision on the day of. The dessert table was an instant hit from the youngest to the oldest guest we had. Everyone was raving about how unique the idea was and how they would want something similar for their next event!
I loved what I had done for our wedding and began creating custom dessert tables for my family and friends. About a year later, my friend, Nazia Morani, and I were talking about potential businesses we would be interested in and dessert tables was on the top of both or our lists. She was also creating sweet tables for friends and family for fun. A few lengthy conversations later, we realized both of us were very serious about this sweet new idea! We met up for brunch and I brought a list of potential names to the table and both of us loved Candee Couture. Nazia immediately purchased the URL the rest is history!
Four years later and we still love what we do! Nazia and I both have over a decade of marketing and design experience in the corporate world and love being able to bring our creative side to each sweet table. Every event is unique and we make it a priority for each dessert table to exude that. This is what keeps us going because we do not create cookie cutter setups. We work with each client individually to understand their vision and then turn their vision into reality. We invest lots of time and effort in order to do so and that is the reason why our clients keep coming back to us and referring their family and friends to us as well.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
After a few of our deals going south for the same reason, we had some of these same potential clients who came back to us after their event admitting that it wasn’t an easy process to create their own dessert table. They realized that there was so much behind the scenes work that they didn’t recognize early on. They had to go out and purchase all of the jars, trays and stands, most of which they had no use for after their event. They had to go out and find bakers who could create unique desserts for them. They had no idea of what quantity they needed of each item nor could they gauge that on their own. In terms of décor, they even admitted it was nowhere near what we could have created for them. They all said if they could go back, they would spend the money to hire us so they could save their time and effort actually enjoy their event.
This was definitely a learning process for us. We decided that we would send a standard questionnaire to anyone who reaches out to us regarding pricing for our services. Their responses would answer many of the questions we would need to determine what they are looking for, their budget and their vision. This has helped us weed out individuals who are not serious about our services early on in the process and thus we have been able to close more deals at a faster rate.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Candee Couture is a Dallas/Fort Worth based dessert buffet design company that specializes in creating chic candy buffets for all types of events. We cater to mostly weddings, but also create sweet tables for engagements, bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays, corporate events, charity events and much more. Our team will help design a dessert table with your vision in mind and take care of the entire setup, breakdown and are also available as sweet attendants throughout your event, if needed.
There are two tables that we are most proud of thus far. We had the pleasure of creating a dessert table for NFL Hall of Famer, Ladainian Tomlinson’s, private charity event where all proceeds went to Cooks Children’s Hospital. It was amazing to be a part of his philanthropic initiative. And the second table was for Mary Kay’s annual conference where over 30,000 consultants flew into Dallas from around the world and saw our display which included products that they sell!
What sets us apart from others is that each candy buffet we create is designed specifically with our clients and their guests in mind. We take pride in the creativity we bring to each table; no two tables are ever identical no matter how similar their themes are.
