Meet Brandon Benavides of She is Love Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Benavides.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Let me introduce myself, my name is Brandon Benavides, I am 20 years old, and attend college in San Antonio, at the University of Incarnate Word. I am now a Junior there, and am working on getting my Finance Degree, and also another degree in Art / Art History.

Since I was a little kid, I have always been doing art. My family put me into art classes when I was five, and it has stuck with me ever since. As I was growing up, I began exploring different mediums of art like ink, painting, collage, and now I am beginning the work on a Conceptual Art project. When I was 16 years old, my interest in fashion and street-wear began to develop. From that point on I knew I wanted to create a brand based on the artwork that I was creating. This would be the catalyst for my fashion, and I think it really is my driving force. All of my fashion designs are directly inspired by the artwork I am creating. However, being that young, I didn’t know how to truly run a clothing brand. When I started college at The Incarnate Word, I started modeling for different local brands and began to understand the fundamentals of how a clothing brand functions. From this experience and independent research, I began structuring my brand. From the summer of 2019 on I began picking and designing what was going to be our first releases. On December 14th, 2019, SHE IS LOVE Clothing launched our website.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, yes, it has been, we have seen a good response from our local and nation-wide audiences. I think the biggest struggle so-far is handling our growth and expansion. We have big plans for what this clothing brand has become but laying the step by step processes is always the hard part. Visualizing a goal is easy, but building the staircase to get you there is the hard part to create.

She is Love Clothing – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
“SHE IS LOVE” is an exploration into the Modern Human and the Modern Society. The project seeks to understand beauty and truth in the contexts of the 21st century. SHE IS LOVE aims to illustrate the systems that we live in and critiques on their current state. The name seeks to demonstrate that love is the ultimate denominator in every person’s life, and wishes to visualize that in every piece. The brand aims to provide a voice to people without one and critique the injustices in modern society. With this brand, I feel as I am directly influenced by what is going on in the world around us, and then I visualize these ideas in the pieces that I create.

Throughout these coming months, I have plans to set up a philanthropy branch of the company, that works to set up or participate in volunteer events, hold fundraisers, and give back to the community. For the time we are living in, I think it is extremely important for businesses to do what they can to give back. I believe because of all of this. This is why our brand stands out against the rest. Through our designs, we want to emphasize the value of love and the good in the world, and not settle for the negatives. We work with local manufacturers to produce our product and have plans to expand to continue to increase the quality of our product.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In my opinion, there are multiple ways to define success, but there are definitely a few indicators on how a truly successful person operates. I want to look past just the monetary value of success. Personally, someone who is successful is someone is able to look after the ones they love. They have a large amount of ambition, and can clearly define how they will achieve their goals. It’s also important to not just look at what they’ve done achievement wise, but all the work they have had to put in to reach those goals.
