Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Correia.
Brandon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have had a passion for photography for several years, but it was always just a hobby. I never really thought about it, I just took pictures, left them unedited, and kept them. I grew up fishing, so a lot of my pictures would be pictures of lakes, sunsets, and obviously fish. In the last couple of years, I decided to invest in some decent camera equipment. I bought a high-end DSLR and got familiar with Photoshop and Lightroom. It wasn’t long until friends and family asked me to start doing shoots for them. My passion is landscapes and cityscapes, but I found myself doing weddings, engagement shoots, baby showers, etc.
Things changed for me once I bought a drone. I started out with a small, cheap on, and knew within a couple of weeks, that I needed to upgrade to a serious one because I saw the potential of being able to take photos form the sky… It all kinda “took off” from there. Now, I do professional drone photos and videos for businesses, construction companies, and real estate owners/agents.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This is an obvious challenge right now. I formed Dallas Texas Drone Photography just two months before the coronavirus pandemic happened. I invested several thousand upfronts for the perfect drone, spent lots of hours on building my website, formed the LLC, etc… Things are kind of paused for know due to the quarantine. I know this is for the greater good, and I would rather be safe and patient than take risks to earn a dollar.
Another challenge was getting the FAA Remote Pilot’s Certificate. I know quite a bit about photography, but to become a drone pilot, you have to study quite a lot about aviation, weather, airspaces, and regulations. The test was not easy, and I gained a new respect for flight and the laws of the sky. Being a drone pilot is fun, but there is a huge responsibility that comes with it. There are lots of no-fly zones and several places in Dallas where you have to contact Air Traffic Control ahead of time just to get authorization to fly your drone in order to get the job done. It was overwhelming at first, but I am glad I got to learn these skills.
Dallas TX Drone Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in aerial photos and videos. Most of our clients are business owners that use our photography for marketing purposes. Some of our commercial clients need aerial photos to submit to their insurance companies and banks. We also work with construction companies. They will hire us to come out on a weekly basis (sometimes more) and we can use our drones and GPS to take photos from the exact same height and angles over the course of the construction phases. The end result is really cool because it can show the whole process from digging the electrical trenches to a completed building.
I’m proud of the fact that we get to help people capture essential moments from a completely different perspective than most photography companies. There is an excitement that each of our clients gets to experience when they see the drone in action. What sets us apart from our competition is that we take no shortcuts. If a job can’t be completed without 100% honesty and integrity, then it’s not worth doing at all. We give upfront pricing begins, and we let our clients have several rounds of revisions on videos until the finished product is exactly what they were looking for. We are obsessed with client satisfaction, and making a profit is just a byproduct of maintaining quality relationships.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was visiting Alaska when I was seven. I wish I would have had a camera back then. I just remember being memorized by the sheer beauty of that state. The mountains were so tall, the wildlife was like nothing I had seen before, and I can still remember the shades of blue that are indescribable in the Glaciers. I defiantly owe Alaska a trip with My Nikon and My Drone!
