Today we’d like to introduce you to Bria Thomas.
Bria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So growing up, I’ve always known that I wanted to own my own business. I dabbled in many things from dance to modeling but I knew for sure that I wanted to be a Business Owner. Towards the end of my senior year of high school, I created Meliah Amour, a company that sells hair extensions. I began to learn more about the Hair Extension Market, to later on start my own Hair Company. Building my company from scratch was an arduous process. Yet, one that I enjoy so much! I remember struggling with a few challenges. Starting out, I didn’t have many resources or money to support even the idea of creating a business, but I didn’t let that stop me.As well as being a teenager, time wasn’t my own. I had school then dance practice after school. Having little to no time, I figured that I had to buckle down and get serious about my business if I wanted to be successful. I made sure that I set aside time to work on building my company. Therefore being determined and tenacious is what got me to where I am today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, I was fresh out of high school and worked at a restaurant making $9/hr as a hostess. It was so challenging trying to support a business off of such a small income. Then going into college, it became even harder to manage time due to classes along with work obligations. I didn’t have a lot of business knowledge which forced me to learn through trial and error. Also, not having patience was a struggle for me. I wanted to make sales but at the time haven’t built a foundation to do so. Creating a business is not as simple as getting a product and slapping it on a website. I figured out that I needed to learn things like what a targeted audience is, how to reach them, and how to display great customer service.
Please tell us about your company.
Meliah Amour is a Hair Extension company, which sells hair in different textures and origins. Meliah Amour believes in uplifting and empowering women. With the understanding that when you look good you feel good.Which would result in you having high confidence. I want to express the importance of loving yourself and having confidence. I’m proud that I can use my company to promote a positive self-image, which sets my company apart from other hair companies.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance is the most important characteristic to have for my success. I know that on the road to success, there will be a lot of obstacles or challenges. Life is not easy, success is not easy and I do not believe it is supposed to be. However, for me to be successful, I must learn to Persevere through whatever life throws at me.
