Brian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The penny is the American symbol of luck & the inspiration behind our brand. Our fine craftsmanship has established Penny Luck and is evident in every pair of shoes we make. From our stitched leather soles to our leather lining, the hands of artisan shoe makers carefully craft every inch of Penny Luck shoes. Our signature lucky penny soles makes our brand unique. When you wear a pair of Penny Luck shoes, you wear your luck everywhere you go.
At Penny Luck, we pride ourselves on spreading luck, not just to our customers, but to U.S. Veterans. Customers can choose to customize the year of their lucky penny and 100% of our customization fee goes to the Purple Heart Foundation. We are dedicated to our partnership with the Purple Heart Foundation and strive to make a difference in the lives of U.S. Veterans who are battling PTSD.
Penny Luck designer & founder, Brian Munoz was compelled to create this brand after a streak of bad luck. After his first company failed, Brian lost everything. During this time, he learned valuable lessons that uncovered the formula for success. Brian had the honor to network with some of the wealthiest men in America. As a curious entrepreneur, he asked these esteemed individuals what contributed to their success. Their answers all consisted of three factors: hard work, risk and LUCK. Brian had all but the latter. The brutal realization that luck is a factor to becoming successful motivated him to build a company established on the foundation of luck.
WHERE WE ARE NOW- Penny Luck is dedicated to using our business platform to give back to Veterans beyond our partnership with the Purple Heart Foundation. As our company grows, we seek to hire Veterans to join our team and help us make a difference. Penny Luck has recently converted military H1 Hummers into retail shops. Currently, we have placed one of our Hummers at Barton Creek Mall in Austin and have received tremendous support from the community. We plan to keep expanding with these retail stores and hope to continue to hire and give back to Veterans.
Has it been a smooth road?
I have had quite the experience pursuing the American Dream. Right out of college I started my first official LLC and was taught an important lesson- never give up. My first company did not make it, but I did not let that stop me. I took valuable lessons from that experience and it eventually lead me to the path I’m on now. I learned that it takes hard work, risk and luck to make your dreams come true and I follow this motto every single day.
Building Penny Luck was not an easy road, but nothing worthwhile comes easy and every challenge has been a learning experience.
When I first started Penny Luck, I had only 2 styles of boots. I walked my samples through downtown Austin and knocked on the doors of every retailer in sight; most of which laughed at me. Now, my shoes are sold in some of the best stores in Texas and I have my own location in Austin.

Penny Luck is an emerging men’s shoe company selling high quality leather shoes and boots. We are best known for our customizable lucky penny soles. Customers love choosing the year of their lucky penny to commemorate a special occasion such as a birth year or anniversary. We are very proud of our partnership with the Purple Heart Foundation because we are able to use our business as a vehicle to give back to U.S. Veterans.
This cause is dear to me because my brother is a disabled Veteran and he joined the Penny Luck team soon after we started. I have always admired my older brother for his outstanding character and for his service. He did two tours in the Middle East as a medic. His sacrifice has always been inspiring to me and when I started Penny Luck I saw an opportunity to give back to people like him who have served our country to make the American Dream possible. Donating 100% of customization proceeds to the Purple Heart is my way of giving back to those who served. I am not stopping at donations to the Purple Heart though, as Penny Luck grows, we are committed to hiring Veterans. I am very aware that if we did not have these brave men and women fighting to protect us, it would not be possible for people like me to have the freedom to chase their dreams.
Being a company with a cause sets us apart, but in addition, our unique designs are truly appreciated by our customers. Penny Luck owners proudly flash their soles and wear their luck everywhere they go.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! In general, we have found Texas to be the most welcoming and supportive community to start a business. This environment has allowed us to build and strong foundation from which we can thrive. I would recommend starting a business here because no matter what industry you are involved in, it is imperative to have community support.
