Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Renee.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Britt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my interest in acting when I was 13. I loved performing in school plays and getting to dress up and always made really good friends and had fun with it. As I got older, I wanted to pursue it more seriously. A lot of people dismissed my thoughts on trying to go big with acting immediately after high school and I believed them, which is still one of my biggest regrets. For a long time, I was in college trying to figure out a good career path, when I realized I should stop listening to what others told me I should do and pursue what I always wanted to do, which is acting. I took some acting classes at my local community college and found what I had been missing in my previous few years of college life which was my passion. I am currently an ATEC major at UTD, so I study a lot of art technology which I love. I decided not to pursue theatre as a degree option, but to jump all in after I graduate.
It was about a year ago that I realized I didn’t have very many connections in the DFW area for acting, and that I should start building a following and gaining vital connections that will help me with my career after college. I have been modeling off and on for a close photographer friend in the area who I met in college, and I started posting more content of his regularly which made me realize I have a knack for modeling, so that took off without me planning for it to.
Currently, I am a freelance actress and model, and more recently, co-founder and head of marketing of Vision Magazine. We just dropped our first issue, definitely check it out! It’s a magazine owned by women and centered around diversity in the arts and sustainable fashion with original work. I also have a YouTube channel I just started with a series I call Knit with Britt, where I interview local artists in the area while knitting, it’s really fun.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are a lot of ups and downs that come with freelancing, especially in this industry. I think some of the biggest bumps have been people doubting whether or not this is a good career move for me, or whether or not I should seriously pursue something so “unstable” as a career path. All I know is, I grind and I make strides, and there’s going to be ups and downs no matter where I work, so I might as well enjoy what I do. It’s also definitely difficult to go to school full time, keep up with a job, and keep up with my freelance work on the side.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m more known for modeling in the DFW area. I definitely would love to transition more into acting roles. That being said, I still love both, and I love being able to create unique stories when doing either. I love doing modeling concepts more than lifestyle-esque content. I love making art that has meaning and purpose.
What were you like growing up?
Oh my goodness, I have to be honest in case my mom sees this. I was a little trouble maker. I grew up being an only child, so there was a lot of focus on me. But also, I was a book worm and I loved reading stories. One time, I don’t remember what it was I got in trouble for, but my mom took my books away as punishment because there was nothing else I would do that she could ground me from. I was rarely outside or watching TV I usually just had my nose in a book in my room.
