Hi Brittani, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a litigation and estate/tax planning attorney for the past 8 years before launching Milliard Diamond Concierge, a custom fine jewelry company, with one of my best friends from high school who has been in the wholesale diamond business for a decade. I always enjoyed the idea of creating my own business – working for myself and enacting my own vision. It appealed to the entrepreneurial side of my personality that had been ingrained in me through watching my father create and launch his own successful business.
I have always loved jewelry – specifically the fact that jewelry tells a deeper story than just a person’s sense of style. I enjoy looking at family heirloom jewelry and hearing all of the stories interwoven into its history. People tend to gift jewelry to their loved ones to represent something special or commemorate a special occasion. Hearing those stories and helping them design the perfect piece to capture those emotions brings me joy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We launched the company during the pandemic, so we thought our timing couldn’t have been worse; but honestly, the support has been overwhelming. Adjusting to entrepreneurship from the corporate law world was a little bit of a learning curve, understanding how to run payroll, manage our supply chain, and interpret the client needs have all required patience, persistence and introspection.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in custom fine jewelry- creating generational pieces, renewing old heirloom jewelry and designing engagement rings all to meet the client’s needs. Our first step is to meet with the client to understand exactly what they are looking for. We talk to them about their style, their goals, and are there with them every step of the way as we design a piece from scratch. Next, we create a 3D CAD rendering of the design to help the client visualize the piece of jewelry that we created in our meeting. All stones used in our pieces are hand-selected with the client to ensure it meets their exact specifications. Because of my business partner’s experience in the diamond industry, we are able to source and design within anyone’s budget. With our concierge service, we are able to streamline the custom process and make it fun, intimate and cost effective. If you can dream it, we can make it!
