Meet Brittany Weatherspoon of K104/KRNB Radio Station in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Weatherspoon.

Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Mass communication has always been my passion all the way back to high school maybe even elementary. I was always the girl that wanted to be the person on TV, on the camera playing like I was on the news or a weather girl. So I took it upon myself to learn every bit of mass communication possible. From yearbook to news to radio and much more. Although I did wanted to learn everything communication my goal was to always be a news anchor until the Lord had a different journey for me.

I was led to the radio at the end of the day and it’s been the best decision yet! Here at K104 and Smooth R&B 105.7, I’m able to truly be myself, show my personality and do what I love. I am still nowhere close to where I need to be in this radio world but as of now, I am truly enjoying myself. And you never know what the future may hold.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In a sense, I can say that my road has been smooth into my career. Only because after college I got an internship at the City of Dallas and right after that got the job at K104. So you can say that it has been smooth as far as finding a position post-grad but mentally I feel like my challenges come from being patient and excepting the journey. You don’t always get your dream position right off the bat even if you feel like maybe you deserve it. You have to just love and except the position that you are in now, work your best and show everyone what you got to get to that desired position. So right now I’m not where I want to be but I continue to pray and know that the position that’s for me will always be for me so just enjoy the journey.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am currently on the promotions team at K104 and Smooth R&B 105.7. I go out into the community as far as concerts, community events, school career days and pep rally‘s, anything you can think of. I have been doing that for about two years now and it has really allowed me to network and meet a lot of great people in the business, celebrities and people in the community that really give back. But this is only just the beginning of my journey on radio so stay tuned for that.

But I can also say that radio has opened my eyes to a lot of different opportunities such as creating my talent names or alter ego “Pretty Britt” and “Brittany Anzell”, which led me to emceeing around Dallas at clubs, fashion shows, community events and much more. I also started a YouTube Channel so I am really only at my entry-level for what is to come in my life if God willing.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First off I’m gonna have to say my mom has been my biggest cheerleader throughout my life and career with continuously reminding me that I can do anything I put my mind to. She never lets me settle. She is constantly helping and pushing me to think of the next level and to just do it! I also have been a mentor to a group of students at UNT “BSE Group 4” for about four years now and they constantly push me and each other to do the best that we can do and I can definitely say that my success and success’ to come is to make them proud!
