Meet Brittney Evans of Plushed Spa in Sherman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Evans.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brittney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started the Esthetician program at the Dallas Aveda Institute five years ago, really just hoping for something good to come from it. I wasn’t financially prepared for school, to the point I actually had to borrow the application fee. Aveda Institute was a perfect choice for me. The days were long, but the program was only six months. Before I even graduated, I had been hired at a lash studio in the Dallas area. Because I was living so far away, five months later, I decided to stop commuting and start working closer to home.

Sherman was never my real home, but the demographics seemed promising. I rented a small shop on a side street in downtown Sherman and hoped people in Sherman liked lash extensions because that was my entire business at the time. I was in luck! After a few months, it appeared lash extensions were really catching on and I found wonderful clients and built a business off of referrals. I guess that’s where my story ends and the Plushed story begins. It was around this time that I met Michelle. Michelle is the only hairstylist we currently have at the salon, and I met her while I was walking to my car at the end of the day. She was looking for a place to rent, and I had space to share. We worked together and built our clientele in this tiny space. And then we moved to another small space, but with updates. Finally, in August of 2019, I found an amazing space in an upstairs location, right on the square in downtown Sherman. It was three times the size of the previous building and I knew the first day I walked in that it was the place. So I went all in.

The new location is filled with some of the most talented women I have ever met. I never imagined Plushed would be the home for all of these thriving businesses. In some way, the universe sent me every one of the artists that work beside me. They all came to Plushed in different ways, and every one of them fits perfectly into this unique space.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. I didn’t know anything about running a business, much less owning one. Some days I’m still not sure I do. But I am learning every day, and I have surrounded myself with the best support system. It helps to have people in the industry to lean on and share mistakes with. The beauty industry is so unique and ever-changing; its always a lot to keep up with.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Plushed Spa – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a lash extension and permanent makeup artist. I would say lashes make up about seventy percent of my business. I do classic, volume and mega volume. I try to take at least one new certification every year. These clients are particular and most of them want the biggest, darkest, longest lashes they can get. or… they want a simple classic look. There is usually no in between, and I want to be able to do either one of those for them.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are located upstairs in a really old building and we love everything about it, but it is a lot of space. So we haven’t fully settled in. I hope we will be closing out 2020 with all of the upgrades and decor we’ve been trying to get around to. We’re also hoping to add a few more stylists to the team in the coming months.
