Today we’d like to introduce you to Brook Armstrong.
Brook, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Rebel, wild child, non-conformist. All words used to describe me…yet, also I am hardworking, self-made and dedicated to helping others grow and succeed in their lives.
My fire comes from somewhere deep inside me that caused me much trauma and confusion growing up because there was just no stopping me once my mind was set (still isn’t!) and that makes for a turbulent youth, laden with running away, drugs and adventures not for the faint of heart. Because of this, I understand people from all walks of life and am able to put myself in their shoes because chances are, I have experienced their pain on some level.
I pulled myself together in my early 20’s just in time to avoid being another statistic of “girl gone bad”. I have learned through years of self-work and the gift of fitness and yoga how to use my past as fuel to succeed, always strive for being a better person, and a passion for using my gifts to help others.
Now, and for the past 19 years, I have dedicated myself to teaching yoga and fitness as a vehicle for change in people’s lives. Our physical regime, the discipline it takes to be consistent, is a mirror for how you show up in all things. When you commit to yourself to not falter on your physical goals, it really does bleed out into all aspects of your life. Yoga is my main discipline I teach now, with fitness sprinkled in here and there, but yoga really was the vehicle that made the most change. Through methodical application of all the principles, I am more patient, compassionate, and the one thing I am most proud of, being a great mom.
I have operated and owned fitness and yoga facilities and led to date 27 trainings for teachers. Through the years, my experience has led me to the most prestigious and longest-running yoga studio, Dallas Yoga Center, which I am honored to be the current manager. Never stop growing!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
NO! After 18 years of marriage and four kids later, I divorced my best friend from high school. I am now a single mom, hustling every day to make sure they have the best life.
Compared to my youth, this is way harder!
There is always guilt associated for single moms who have to work to provide for their kids that they aren’t spending enough time with them. Every struggle they have is multiplied in your mind by the fact you work so much, but I can honestly say they are at the top of my priority list and are my reason to keep my eye on the prize. The prize being raising them to know love, and how to love and most importantly, how to receive it.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dallas Yoga Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Dallas Yoga Center has been a staple in Dallas for 30 years! Only bringing the best of the best to the community, they are committed to growth and having a safe, serene space. When you walk in, your blood pressure lowers, you feel as if you’ve stepped into a temple in India and the entire staff and members make you feel welcome and home. To get to this level is an accomplishment and a dream of mine.
I also specialize in working privately with NFL players, Olympic athletes and kids from select soccer teams looking to make soccer their profession. Over the years with my diverse training background in anatomy, physiology and biomechanics, I blend this with my yoga training to offer something no one else is doing.
I also still teach fitness classes for Shine Hot Pilates and LOVE to push people to their highest potential. Nothing is more sweet than when a student or client has a breakthrough and move beyond their limitations.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future is BRIGHT!
At Dallas Yoga Center, we are expanding our offerings and in 2020, be on the lookout for deep healing practices to be added to our offerings. We are completely remodeling the space and have a big vision for a wholistic wellness center that continues to offer the best yoga in Dallas.
