Meet Bryan Blanks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Blanks.

Bryan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My Uncle and Grandfather wouldn’t believe me if I said this, but they play a huge part in my evolution with music and performing arts. The courage and bravery it to took to stand up and sing in front of hundreds and thousands of people and be able to move them with your voice, command them with your presences was everything to me. I wanted to be able to do that so bad, it was a superpower, who doesn’t want to feel or be looked up to like a superhero? So, I started listing to artists that interest me like Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, Destiny’s Child, Brian McKnight, Brandy, and Moses Hogan, to name a few. Listening to these artists and singing along to their songs, listing back at myself… hum I hear a little voice in there, come to find out I can sing to, now to find my way in this music thing.

All throughout school, I was in a band, choir, dance took a piano lesson, theater arts did everything I could think of to learn all I could about music and performing. I wanted to be just as good as the artist I listen to, if not better. After graduating from high school, I went to UNT Denton to study Classical Performance. Italian Arias, I loved performing O Del Mio Dolce Ardor and Nina. Those were my favorite two, but I was looking for something more, so I joined the first Glee Club, which was a blast. Glee was fresh, hot, and new. I made a lot of friends, did a lot of performing but something was still missing. I did two years out there then finished up at Cedar Valley Community college, where I continued my voice lessons. Andrea Wallace then introduced me to Musical Theater, where I stared in my first stage play The Gifts of the Magi.

I attended KD Conservatory for Musial Theater Performance, where I received my second associate degree. Again, another wonderful experience. This school is near and dear to my heart for all the growth, friendships that I have still to this day, a lesson on and off the stage. After graduating, I was doing well, auditioned for Hamilton on Broadway, BET, booked a couple of well-paying stage productions, also started getting paid to dance, things were looking good until they weren’t. Play’s stop coming I wasn’t singing as much anymore. I wanted something more, something different, something for me. I know, I knew I had a story to tell. I just needed a team or someone who would help me achieve our dreams. So here I am with SoundAlarm Studio, formerly known as Piano Note 1 Productions making my first album Hot Love.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would be lying if I said yes, I’ve dealt with plenty of No’s, you are not what we are looking for, self-doubt, job issues you name it I have had to deal with it. How I overcome is with prayer, meditation, and dancing.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Hot love is my first project, my first baby. So, this, too, holds a special place in my heart. I wrote all the songs you’ll hear on the album. I dance, sing, act arrange my own background vocals. Most of the new music you hear samples or pays homage to the older music, a lot of my influences come from old school music with a little dash of what’s current with keeping my eye and ear out for my new sound, you have to stay thinking ahead.
