Today we’d like to introduce you to Byron Butler.
Byron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started a fashion company in 2009, called Blaque Luv Clothing. My nick name was Black at the time and people always told me how deep I am with the Love of life, so that’s where the name originally derived. I gathered a team together and traveled the city of Dallas and some surrounding areas, looking for loyal clients to buy some wholesale clothing. I found that people like to buy accessories and branded t-shirts that stood out the most, usually looked the most expensive, and for the cheapest price. I then researched different avenues to get product and sourced in some merchandise to keep in inventory. Most of our business comes from referrals or word of mouth, so our customers are just like family. Over the years, the company has grown into a healthy, community focused brand. Today we run byronsbayou.com, an online store to better serve our customers’ needs. We just came launched a new brand called Libertat Nation on social media, through great customer service and innovation, we’ve come a long way and look forward to the future.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Business was very rocky during the first year. My team had to get creative and think of different ways to get products into the hands of the public, even if we didn’t make money. I also had to learn more about taxes, business laws, and accounting practices for better transparency. There are still different struggles and obstacles that come about, but not as it was in the beginning.
Blaque Luv Clothing Company – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We sell branded clothing, accessories, we sell our brands Blaque Luv Clothing Co., and new brand Libertat Nation. The brands we carry usually come from one of the major department stores around the country or one of our wholesale partners. I think myself and my team are most proud of not being afraid to not only visualize our plans, but actually put forth the effort to follow the plan, and see it become a success. We are not just a fashion company, we are the “Underground Shopping” experience in Dallas and Houston. We try to get the best quality products and save our customers marginal savings just for doing business with us.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally believe success is always in the eye of the beholder. Healthy living, good character, and freedom to do as a person pleases is success in my eyes … and some money to go along with it.
