Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Ballard.
Cameron, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I officially started doing photography with my uncle around seven years ago. I would always be interested and would want to go with him to his photo and video shoots. Unfortunately, he passed away some years ago and I kind of stopped. Because of that, I decided to take off with it and officially started doing professional photoshoots in July of 2019. I even took off a semester of college so I could build my work up and that I have done! I am pretty known in the area now as one of the best youngest photographers in the DFW area. I am now going back to school at the University of Texas at Arlington and will continue to build my reputation up. I plan to become a full-time photographer once I graduate because it’s my passion. I go by the motto “It’s not about the money, it’s about working on MY own terms and working for myself”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not necessarily, these past few months I’ve had struggles on equipment. Not having a laptop to edit on, having to go to other people’s houses and using their devices to edit on. Also, with the equipment, I wouldn’t have money to rent the proper equipment so I would have to work with what I had. There would be nights where I would be up thinking and have no clue how I would get what I need. I would pray every night and God answered my prayers which is why I keep God close. Now I have been able to buy my own laptop and own equipment for my work.
Please tell us about Shotsbycam_.
I am a 19 y/o photographer and my business name is Shotsbycam_. I shoot birthday shoots, maternity shoots, hair/lash shoots, clothing brands, graduation/senior shoots, etc. I am most proud of how hard and dedicated I am to this photography. I would spend hours watching videos on how to get better and I am always eager to learn more. What sets me apart is that I’m not trying to have the same style as every other photographer. I don’t want to be known as a “cameraman”, I want to be known as a photographer who’s work makes people want to work with me and be creative.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a kid was going on my very first cruise to the Bahamas and going on a submarine ride. I would love to experience that again.
