Meet Domenica Irula of Care Commute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Domenica Irula.

Domenica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have worked in education for over 10 years in different roles; administration, teacher, and coach. As time passed and curriculum’s changed one thing remained constant, working parents and stay-at-home parents alike continued to struggle to get their kids to school and extracurricular activities. At times, unfortunately, that would mean students wouldn’t have the opportunity to sign up for after-school programs or activities. In fact, as a basketball coach, there were countless times I personally dropped players home from practice or games.

As I witnessed our neighbors grow rapidly, traffic congestion increase and more commuters detouring through our neighborhood; I was convinced there had to be a better way and in July 2018 with help from my husband we created Care Commute.

From the beginning, we knew there would be challenges but together we are driven to create a safe solution for kids of all ages to have access to the vast opportunities our communities in North Dallas have to offer. We work day and night to ensure our parents have the piece of mind that their kids are being transported safely.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We work diligently day and night to ensure Care Commute’s success but there is always challenges to overcome. In fact, we recently created a motto to live by; “Together we will WIN or we’ll LEARN, but with God on our side, we’ll NEVER lose.

One of our current struggles is keeping up with the demand and expanding at scale. Ideally, we would like to provide service to everyone who needs our service and we are currently brainstorming to make that a possibility. At the core of our mission, it is critical to maintaining our standards of safety for all commuters.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Care Commute – what should we know?
Care Commute provides a solution to a problem parents and kids have been struggling with for years. We see ourselves as an extension of a caregiver or nanny. Now, kids have the ability to make the basketball team or get tutors. Parents have a little extra time to take a breather or stay later at work for a meeting and best of all more quality family time. Parents usually spend at least 20 hrs a week driving their children around, that’s equivalent to having a part-time job!

We specialize in providing monthly school shuttle service. Most importantly, we are helping families gain access to these different activities without the stress of planning transportation and have more quality family time together.

We believe we are unique, in that, our Care Drivers have child-care experience, go through extensive background checks and ride along training. Moreover, the Care Commuter rider experience is fundamental in how we prepare our routes. We try our absolute best to create the safest school routes possible that avoid major highways and busy intersections.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
God has been our rock throughout this journey. Through Him, we’ve found the courage to take this leap into the unknown. I am grateful and blessed to have the opportunity to provide the resource to families in need.

My husband and my father who have been very supportive in me leaving my career in education and driving into this journey with me. We also have had great support from our local community and school districts.  We are extremely grateful for all the blessings we have received in our first year of business.
