Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Barnett.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Casey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I currently live and work in San Antonio, Texas although I spent most of my life growing up near Denver, Colorado. My wife and I, Alana, have five beautiful children together, Alexandria (12), Easton (11), Zachary (6), Brooklyn (4), and Deacon (2). My parents also live here in San Antonio.
They are two of the most incredible people in the world. I have zero ideas where I would be today without their constant love and support. My two brothers, Brendan and Kyle, are also married and live in St. Petersburg, FL, and Cleveland, Ohio…(respectably 🤣🤣)
I have always, always loved physical fitness… I enjoy nutrition, weight training, running, sports and competition. Whether it be coaching or competing, there’s something about competition that you never stop loving. I also love fishing, beach trips, landscaping, graphic design, wine, and classic rock.
I have the lifelong benefit of being coached in high school by Linda Witt. Coach Witt is a Track & Field legend in Colorado. She taught me at a very young age the importance of consistency. She taught us to always have an agenda and be open to new opportunities. It is because of Coach Witt that I pursued coaching… I coached youth football and basketball in San Antonio for five seasons and I’m currently developing the Elite 400 Speed & Development camp.
I’ve always loved the sport of track and field and when the opportunity to coach at a high school level presented itself, I couldn’t say no. Coaching at the high school level is incredible! You are still developing the athlete’s interest in the sport and their fundamentals. It’s the best of both worlds!
Has it been a smooth road?
Obstacles and challenges present opportunities. Plain and simple. In my first season as the head coach our team had nine state qualifiers in seven events. From the outside looking in, this was an amazing task, however, we weren’t satisfied with our state performances. It gave me the opportunity to evaluate our team but most importantly myself. What could I have done better? Could I have prepared them more? A common mistake coaches make is that they make the team about them. I’ve always wanted everyone, coaches and athletes, to know that it’s always about the athletes. We as coaches must always challenge, edify, and support the athletes. I spent the off-season at clinics, coaching camps, and developing the culture to be a “team first” mentality. With each new season, I can guarantee they’ll be obstacles and challenges, however, opportunities will present always themselves to overcome them.
We’d love to hear more about your work.

I’m confident that if you were to ask our student-athletes some of these questions, they’d say I’m known for extremely challenging practices with a massive amount of support. You have to commit as a coach and as an athlete to the entire season as well. If your agenda is to be elite, you cannot miss practices with hopes of improving. What I’m most proud of is seeing and being a part of the culture that our team has developed. Track in Texas is a very long season, January through mid-May. For the student-athletes, it’s their entire second semester of school. What sets us apart is our commitment.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Antonio, Texas…. my only complaint is that the humidity doesn’t last all year. I love it.
