Meet Casey Thomas of Creative Soul Music School in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Thomas.

Casey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After picking up the piano at age 19, I overcame the fear that it was too late for me to pursue music as a career & proved the phrase that “it’s never too late” to learn anything especially when dedicated and passionate. Graduating with a Hospitality Management degree from UNT, I studied in the prestigious music classes there and focused on classical, jazz, blues, composition and improvisation, developing a voracious appetite for learning an instrument, and even sharing a practice room & some blues licks with Norah Jones.

I would love to say that I was amazing, I was a natural, or playing the piano came easy to me.  But this was far from reality. I worked really really hard to make this dream come true.

After college I was teaching and tutoring kids an afterschool program, and I  had a vision to create a community where kids and adults could be encouraged while learning music, a place where people could discover their interests and collaborate with others while having the time of their life.

“3 ways to truly learn anything worthwhile”

I learned that to get truly good at anything in life and absorb it – you must have 3 key components:

  1. Mentor/Coach to push you & pull you ahead

  2. Community of others like minded & striving toward the same goals as you to encourage & challenge you

  3. Experiences that build your skills, help you team, & create memories you’ll remember for a lifetime

Through Creative Soul, this is what exactly what intended to do.

By having a mission to help kids & adults alike gain not only a love for learning music but bring families and communities together to share in a love for music together.

This is stuff is serious fun!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh my goodness. Not at all. Owning your own business is not for the faint of heart.

When I started teaching I put 4-8 hours a day learning how to be a better teacher.   After years of study and trial and error I became a pretty good at inspiring and teaching others.

But then I opened up a business and had to learn accounting, marketing, hiring and managing.  Lots of differents hats and each one of them I could spend my life learning.

Thankfully I love to learn and I keep things fresh by not stop reading and meeting with others who know better than I.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Creative Soul Music School – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Because our own kids go to the school, we spend a lot of time in the hiring process.  These instructors are inspiring my kids as well so it is important to have the best team around.

We have been around for 13 years and have enjoyed teaching almost 7000 students.  We have some students who have been inspired enough to become music majors and teach for our music camps and such.  Which is really special for us.
