Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste Soto-Geronimo.
Celeste, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been into fashion. Ever since I was 13, I decided to do my own nails. It wasn’t until after high school that my good friend Sandy (who currently does nails in Atlanta, Georgia) asked me to come to check out the salon she was at. After my tour, I decided to get my nail technician license.
I couldn’t see me doing anything else. I have a dream and vision and I strive to give high-quality art and product for my clients. As well as educate my clients on self-care for nails. To achieve this, I have traveled to many states to learn from all the greats. I am always learning. I keep up with today’s trends, even making my own and new nail art, there is no limit to what one can achieve. I’m living proof. I’m eight years in and I have been on my own for the last couple of years, perfecting my brand, Celeste’s Nails. My plans for the future is to teach upcoming nail techs and help them along their journey.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’m glad where I’m at today, being an independent nail technician has really opened my eyes to see what it takes becoming a business owner. I’ve worked at establishments that were not ready to run, didn’t know what they were doing, not properly in code with the cleanliness of their shop, reusing disposable implements like buffer, files, and etc. I’m a clean, neat person. I like to say and finding my second home was the hardest!
And that’s because I’m more of a nail artist than just a nail technician. When you first start working in a nail salon have to follow their guidelines of how-to, but I never liked Following other People’s rules on how to do nails. No one ever did them right!
We’d love to hear more about your art.
Celeste’s Nails, well like Selena’s, I want to be known for awesome rad nails. I am a nail artist and not your regular nail lady. I do sculpted acrylic nails, gel manicures, and work with hard gels. I love working with the apres nails system. Its a gel system that’s more flexible and natural to your nails, and comes like a press on but totally not your Store-bought press on!
They have awesome products for their hard gels, and gel polishes that I love to use for my nail art. The extensions for the nails come in four lengths and five shapes. Apres is the way to go and so fun to work with when creating rad nail art!!
I’m glad to be known for my clean work, and detailed artwork, I have worked with some cool people and learned what to do and not to do for my business. Especially on how to run one takes time and patients. Ives seen a lot of other nail technicians just providing short cuts, or not providing quality nails like the client requested. What sets me apart from others is I will educate about the nails and what your nails need to be healthy. Definitely not a chop shop, I Love to take my time to make beautiful nails!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dfw is huge and still growing! And It is so cool to have clientele from all ends of the metroplex getting nails done by me! I have some people try and book, and tell me I’m too far or my prices are too much. Well, like anyone else, there is a nail tech for you and that will accommodate for you. But like any other job or in the corporate world, you been in a field so long and learned so much more being in the game. You give your self a raise every year! And the quality better be the price your paying too!
There are so many nail shops, it’s crazy how some stay open, but to be a professional at what you do, get a license. I see so many nail techs today putting their name in saying they are professional but no license. Even if it’s hobby hustle, be smart, get your license and you will have your foot in the door more and know for yourself like I, how to run your own Business one day.
And DFW has a lot. I think that’s my most dislike of my city, not much originality and passion. But I don’t want an establishment where someone walks in and says, who does the best nails in here? I want all nail techs to strive, learn and know what they have to offer!
