Meet Chad Delafield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Delafield.

Hi Chad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I absolutely love music; it has always been a big part of my life. I started writing songs around 10 years old and was in choir from 5th grade up through high school, but my real musical journey began back in 2009. In December, in the middle of nowhere on a street called ‘Lovers’, a truck had narrowly missed a dog; inspiration hit, and my first song began writing itself: “A Death On Lover’s Lane”.

By March I had self-recorded a 12-track album of demos using my mom’s acoustic guitar, Audacity, and a Rock Band mic. I only performed for a very small group of friends, but with both college and work ramping up to full speed I had to put down the guitar and change my priorities.

A few years later, I was introduced into the DFW music scene for the first time. My friend Tayler asked me if I could play bass for his Metalcore band – I had never played bass before but wanted to give it a shot! I picked it up pretty quick, hit it off with the guys, and played with ‘Humannequin’ from 2016 to 2019. After a short tour around Texas, we decided to put the band to rest and parted ways.

With no creative outlet, I revisited my old acoustic project and decided to rewrite my best songs. So here I am a decade later, finally able to share my music under the name “Goodbye, Farewell.”

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have certainly been some challenges. A big one would probably be the struggle to get out of my own head, to find and invest time to work on writing new material. Coming back to music after so many years, at times, has felt like my window of opportunity has all but closed.

Finding shows that have room for an artist that sits somewhere between singer-songwriter and pop punk band can definitely be an obstacle. And of course, the challenge to stay relevant – having the drive and passion to create and pour your heart into art doesn’t mean that it will catch on or even be heard. Promotion can definitely help, but staying social and always moving forward in an industry that is constantly changing is probably the most challenging part of all.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So, I make emo music; my music is kind of a long-lost tie to the mid-2000s “Myspace-era” of music. I write and sing songs that are built on emotion, that have meaning and story behind them – I love being a storyteller. Pretty much every song I write has a narrative to it, whether it’s out in the open or hidden on a deeper level.

When I perform, it’s always been acoustic, but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be quiet, soft, or boring. I bring energy to every performance and love to get my audience engaged – I even have a special song just for that!

I’m proud to have worked with Nik of Frostbound Studios, he has really helped to breathe new life into these old songs. Which, SURPRISE — you saw it here first — new songs will be releasing in Spring 2023!

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am 100% down to collab with other bands and musicians; I love being a part of the writing process. Anyone interested can reach out through social media or send me an email – my inbox is always open!

Support can be as simple as streaming my music, sending a song to a friend, sharing a social media post or even coming out to a show here in DFW.

My goal is to make music that means something to someone, that has the ability to heal when times are tough, and that others can simply enjoy.
