Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Rogers-Campbell.
Chloe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Chloe Rogers-Campbell. I am 23 years old, and am a singer/songwriter and owner of Free Vibe Entertainment. The idea of Free Vibe Entertainment came about when I was 17 years old. I always knew that I wanted to do music and had dreams of being signed to a big label. Over time, I realized how much of my identity would me prepackaged and my creativity stifled if signed to someone else. So, I came up with the idea of beginning my own music label where I could empower myself and other artists to live in their truth.
In the beginning, Free Vibe was just an idea that never really formed until about four years later, when I started selling custom Free Vibe merchandise and branding all my music with it. It is now a business that hosts; My music, Custom Free Vibe Apparel/Merchandise, and Creative Directed Photography. Over time, Free Vibe has become a more personal journey that allows me and is still teaching me to find my own voice. Above everything it is a journey to Freedom. I did not even realize that when I began this name would take on so much more meaning. Through Free Vibe, I am unlocking the gifts God has given me by living in my full abilities. I depend on his grace, and then my creativity is unleashed, thus freeing me from any inhibitions in whatever I do. I am blessed to have so many creative friends and family around me that keep me inspired, collaborate with me, and support all I do. The goal of Free Vibe Entertainment is to inspire anyone that encounters it to live in this same Freedom.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to creating Free Vibe and just being confident in it has been far from smooth. Before selling the Merch we have now, Sweatshirts and Lighters, Free Vibe use to carry denim jackets. I was collaborating with someone on making this product and when they decided to leave the project, I was devastated. I had no idea what I would sell and felt like Free Vibe’s merch was going to fall apart. I ended up coming up with the idea of the Sweatshirts that gained success for the brand. After solidifying this, I heard about a competition at my University, where entrepreneurs could sign up to win $10,000 in a video pitch. I thought this would be perfect for Free Vibe and a big help, especially since I was doing everything alone. I thought, “With the funds, I could do so much more, and maybe even hire people.”
I worked hard on my pitch and ended up losing in the first round. This failure really sparked something in me and I remember telling myself, “I have to get it on my own.” So I worked hard and ended up releasing the Free Vibe Lighters later that year and sold out of my inventory by the end of the month. The following year, I reentered the competition at my school with a new pitch and this time won $15,000. What I took from these failures was that they were simply steppingstones that were positioning me for greater abundance. My vision at times can be so focused on getting something accomplished to where I may think that getting that opportunity will control my destiny when in reality, these failures were more important to my destiny. Not so smooth sailing has caused me to learn Independence, how to reinvent myself, and lessons from past mistakes.
Free Vibe Entertainment – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Free Vibe Entertainment is a space where creativity is expressed through Music, Fashion, and Passion. Free Vibe hosted its first EP in 2017 titled “Notes” on Soundcloud, and then in 2019, released the EP “Tales of a Sad Girl” on all major streaming platforms. We are also known for our custom Free Vibe branded Sweatshirts and Lighters that started off being sold online through my Instagram (and still is), and later will be featured in store by end of the year. Lastly, I have always had a passion for modeling and began the “FVE Creative Direction Highlight” series where, I model, shoot, edit, and creative direct photoshoots expressing different concepts through photos. I think what sets Free Vibe apart is its dedication to Freedom, self-empowerment, and overall Independence. This central theme of Freedom acts as a vessel that gives birth to the Vibes of creativity. This is a one-stop-shop for Vibes; you can feel the vibes through the music, express it through the apparel, or visually experience it through the creative concepts displayed through photos. This is what I think our base loves the most, that so many different energies are exchanged in different ways through the music, the fashion, and photos.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as being able to do something you love and are willing to live with. When I think of things I want to do in life, it always has to be something I am passionate about and can live with. Meaning I have to have some type of connection to the work and I have to morally be okay with how I am going to get it. How I see it is, I could have all the “success” by the world’s standards and still be unmotivated and ashamed of how I got it if I don’t do it from the heart. I know that I would feel proud of myself if I worked hard, chose integrity and did it off pure talent.
Some major milestones I hope to check off my list would be; getting my music on the radio independently, signing talented artists, becoming an EGOT, selling Free Vibes’s apparel/merch in major stores, inspiring/teaching men and women of color to start their own business, and being on the Forbes list one day.
