Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Cashen.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up as a Catholic school girl who got in trouble talking in class… a lot. haha
Every job that I had that involved some type of public speaking was my favorite job. As a radio personality, I liked being in the studio, but doing public appearances was even better. When I was a college admissions officer for Central Michigan University, presenting college night programs was my sweet spot. How could I make people laugh so that they would pay attention? It was a challenge.
After getting my master’s degree in Adult Education I had a terrible job at a credentialing agency that was the “job from hell.” Eventually and gratefully I was fired, which was the best thing that could have happened to me.
I then auditioned for a national seminar company who had me presenting full-day programs around the globe. It was a great experience, but the travel was grueling. After 4 years, I decided to break out on my own as a keynote speaker and speaking on the topics I was most passionate about. I’m grateful every time I have the privilege to get up on stage and make people laugh, learn and take stock of their lives.
Has it been a smooth road?
I knew early on what I wanted to do and many people tried to dissuade me. In fact, one person suggested that because I was a young woman that I should be a secretary for a speaker rather than try to make it on my own.
Thank goodness I didn’t listen. But, even today when you look at a lineup of speakers at an event, you will find that the men outnumber the women- by far.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with A Dynamic Speaker, Inc. – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Energizing people, making them laugh and gaining some useful skills to enhance their personal and their professional lives is my specialty.
Most of my business comes from others who have seen me speak and I’m proud that I have been able to sustain that for over 20 years.
More importantly, I’m proud of the number of people that I have been able to mentor along the way. My Dad always asks me why I help out the “Competition” and I tell him that there is enough work to go around and we need more people bringing ideas, skills, laughter, and motivation to people- now more than ever.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like being able to golf in February! Growing up in Michigan you only had a few months of good weather. Yes, it is hot here in the summertime, but we get more months of good weather and you don’t have to own a shovel.
Being in the central time zone is perfect for those of us to travel a bunch. DFW is such a great airport. Love flying direct and being the hub for American Airlines is ideal.
Hmmm… What do I like least? Fire ants, copperheads, and traffic. Maybe not in that order.
