Meet Christopher Jenkins of Grizzly Fitness in Irving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Jenkins.

Christopher, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve lost 200+ pounds. A year and 9 months ago, I was weighing 456 pounds. Yea I know that’s a lot. It wasn’t easy at all. I was so overweight and had a very bad digestive system. I was always sick and feeling bad, wasn’t able to go to the restroom. This was an on and off situation and if I hadn’t taken control, I would have died. I went through so much with my digestion problem. I had to go through several colonoscopies and scopes to try to figure out what was wrong with me. I was diagnosed with so many things like diverticulitis, colitis, and even Crohn’s disease. This had me so stressed out but I still believed and trusted in God.

My doctor recommended me to go on a diet and try to take control of the situation while I could or it would get worse. I did that because I didn’t wanna die from it and I was so tired of feeling sick all of the time. Not being able to defecate is not a good feeling at all. So, after being on a diet for about a month, I was starting to feel a slight difference with my digestion. I was still sick here and there but it wasn’t as bad as it was previously. I also noticed that I was losing weight. I saw it on my face, neck, and shoulders. I went back for a doctor visit and he told me I needed to hit the gym to tone up. Long story short, I got a gym membership then that turned into me getting a job at the gym and now, I’m a personal trainer. And on top of that, I’m not sick anymore and I don’t have any more digestive problems. God is amazing and has brought me through a lot of things. They were hard situations but they all were meant for my good. I’m so grateful and thankful.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been an easy road with this weight loss. I struggled with a lot. Being the fat guy walking into a gym where you are seeing all of these fit bodies was very discouraging to me. One day I came into the gym and a guy walked up to me and he noticed I was uncomfortable. He asked if I was ok or if I needed any help. I told him I didn’t know what I was doing and I was scared to be in the gym. He told me he understood and told me that it’s ok to feel like that but to always remember my reason for being here. He said, “It’s always going to be someone in here that’s better than you and someone that you’re better than”. He told me it’s me against me. This stuck with me and I used it for motivation to keep going. A lot of times, I wanted to throw the towel in quit but with strength from God, I was able to push through.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company Grizzly Fitness is very unique. We specialize in nutrition and fitness. I’m a Herbalife nutrition coach and I branched out with my Grizzly brand. I’m more aimed towards heavy set individuals and people who are overweight. I do this because I’m able to relate to them more because I was once overweight. We specialize in nutritional counseling, meal plans and preps, workout plans, personal training, and group training, helping people lose weight, gain muscle, tone and firm, gain energy, etc. As a company, I’m most proud of being able to help people change their lives for the better, letting them know that anything is possible. What sets Grizzly Fitness apart from others is that our company is living proof and has changed so many people’s lives even my own.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was known for being fat, fly, and spoiled. I was always called the fat Kid. A lot of people were jealous of me because of how blessed I was. Then, still a lot of people wanted to be around me all of the time because of my personality. I was and still people’s person. Loved talking and making connections with people.
