Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Atwood.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After being married for 16 years, I realized after my divorce that I no longer wanted to stay in the grind that is sometimes necessary in the corporate world. I have always been drawn to creative outlets such as writing. I decided that it was time to shake things up in my life. I no longer wanted for my income to be determined by someone else’s view of what my value is. I needed to find a way to combine my lifelong passion of helping people while bringing my creativity into the spotlight. After a little search on the internet, I found that creating a business as a Virtual Assistant would meet all of the criteria of the lifestyle that I desperately wanted. The very next day, I started Courtney Atwood Creative Solutions. I started networking on social media from my phone and landed my first client within a few days. I took a small amount from my last paycheck and purchased a laptop and I was in business.
Fast forward four short months later and I now have multiple loyal ongoing clients and have expanded my brand services to include such services as Online Business Mangement, Copywriting and Social Media Mangement, I also have started building a team of wonderfully talented contractors to help with the overflow. I have built up to a growing successful and profitable business very quickly and it doesn’t show signs of stopping. I could not have believed a year ago that I would own business, but with determination and allowing to let my personality shine, anything is achievable.
Has it been a smooth road?
The main struggles of being an entrepreneur are the self-doubt that inevitably rears its ugly head at every opportunity. I think that all business owners go through a season of “imposter syndrome”. No matter how much confidence you have in your abilities, there’s always going to be that little voice saying to you that you aren’t good enough.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Courtney Atwood Creative Solutions provides online support to small business owners that need help with managing their business, social media and/or copywriting needs. I am most proud of my ability to really allow my personality to come through with my brand in an easy going yet professional manner. What really sets me apart from others is that I feel that instead of the client assigning a few tasks that need to be taken care of and ticking off a checklist, I have a more personal approach and really try to collaborate with the client to take care of all of their big goals. Anyone can respond to some emails, but finding that person that can work with you on a personal level to really achieve your big goals is rare.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel that since my business is mostly in the online world it can be done successfully from anywhere. Being in a large Metropolitan city certainly has its advantages to being able to provide a more hands-on approach to brick and mortar businesses and with networking at in-person events as well.
