Meet Courtney Jane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Jane.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
About two years ago, when I moved up to Denton, I accepted a job position as Assistant Team Leader with a company called Francesca’s. A couple of months later, I met Mica Mackenzie, who has been a massive part of my career development. At the time, I was interning for her at the Quiet Nonsense Blog for marketing and social media management. As time went on, I realized that doing social media management was something I truly enjoyed.

Fast track to 2020, I’m back in school attending the University of North Texas for a degree in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Marketing, I received a promotion to being a Boutique Team Leader (store manager) at Francesca’s. I’m also still very involved with the QN Media & Marketing Firm, where I manage their social media account. Throughout handling the QN Media & Marketing Firm’s social media pages, I’ve learned so much about running social media, graphic design, and marketing strategies.

When I first started social media management and marketing, I had no idea what I was doing and no school background on it either. Everything that I’ve learned, I was taught while working with Mica along with everyone else on the team, as well as, self-teaching myself along the way throughout the middle of the night. While still being a part of the QN Media & Marketing team, I am in the early stages of creating my own brand called A Fashionable Mess.

I would never have thought that I would be in the process of creating my own brand. Because I was allowed to work with Mica on the Quiet Nonsense Blog and QN Media & Marketing Firm, I realized that having a career on social media is possible when you put your heart, soul, and mind to it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not for any second, when I joined Mica and team, I was taking a gap year from university and solely focusing on work and my career. During my gap year, I realized that I needed to get back into school, and so I made it a point to do so. Now, I’m almost completed with my first semester back to the University of North Texas, working with Mica and team at QN Media & Marketing, and still holding my day-to-day job at Francesca’s as a Store Manager. The biggest struggle I had was the adjustment back into a busy school load while working full time. For the times I wanted to give up on one or the other, I continued to push myself and to stay focused, and now I am so thankful that I did because of the opportunities that I have received.

Please tell us about your work.
A Fashionable Mess is a lifestyle and fashion blog that I am in the process of starting. I decided to start this because throughout working with Mica and everyone else on the team, I’ve grown a passion for social media and being able to tell your story through social media. I will be able to showcase everything that I love through A Fashionable Mess, and also provide social media management. I’m incredibly happy to be starting this project and watching it grow over time by utilizing what I’ve learned throughout the last two years and everything else I learn along the way.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood – that’s tricky because I don’t have a favorite childhood memory. Although, my favorite memory of all time is the day I got my precious cat, Oliver. I didn’t plan him or anything. I just woke up one day, and a friend of mine needed to rehome, and I immediately offered to take him in, not knowing what I was getting myself into. Bringing him back to my home was a blessing in disguise. Its been a rollercoaster with him, but he’s been the world’s best pet.
