Meet Courtney Lockwood of Second To None Performance and Apparel in Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Lockwood.

Courtney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I watched the fitness industry slowly grow on social media and started to do research on how to achieve my own bikini body, where I realized how much actually goes into achieving the body goals we all have. That sparked my desire to make it a career so I could help others achieve these goals, and eventually Compete in Physique competitions myself.

In the process of becoming a mother in 2017, I began to Brand myself as a Trainer which is essential since you’re walking marketing for your Training business, but I wanted to do more than brand myself. I wanted to build a brand that sent a positive message; one that developed over the years of 2015 to today; based on my own personal growth and experiences within the fitness industry as both a professional and a client. Mental health can be shaken when working on physical goals. There’s a mindset that needs to be mastered in order to survive and be successful! And that is what Second to None Performance and Apparel is today.

Second To None, Performance and Apparel is a Faith-based Personal Training company and Lifestyle Apparel Brand. ‘XXCC,’’ TeamXXCC’ or ‘Team220’ is the Community I’ve created of like-minded individuals to feel empowered by their Authenticity and who are determined to better themselves each day in order to live their divine purpose. Being “Second To None” means you are not superior over anyone and no one is superior over you. Clients and advocates of self-love and human empowerment alike can feel proud to not only Train with the company and/or wear the brand but also feel backed and supported by the very brand they wear.

FunFact: “Second To None” is a play on words with 2-2-0 and I love numbers, but I love Roman numerals even more, which lead to the creation of the XXCC Logo drawn by myself; Second To None Became an official LLC in September of 2019; ‘XXCC’ Culture Code is Faith – Authenticity – Community – Purpose.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest. I conceptualized Second To None early on in my start to becoming a personal trainer and it got put on hold while I was pregnant and even after when I found out, my daughter had a heart condition called Ebstein’s Anomaly, of which she’ll require surgery in the future.

However, I remained a Personal Trainer at the Fitness Connection in Irving while I continued to grow and learn in the fitness industry, which leads to the deeper connection that Second To None’s message is centered around.

We’d love to hear more about Second To None Performance and Apparel.
As a company, we specialize in both Personal Training and Personal growth. In personal Training, Courtney is a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer (NASM CPT) and a Certified Performance Nutrition Coach (PNC) and Contest Prep Coach. My first Bikini client should be hitting the stage towards the end of 2020.

I’m most proud of the message and culture code; It was created out of my own experiences. I have built a strong and ever-progressing relationship with God (Faith). I’ve been someone who felt being different was a bad thing (Authenticity). I’ve always found so much joy in being around people even being a natural introvert, especially those who are fellow competitors and people who believe in becoming growth and progressing themselves (Community) and I’ve always felt like God created me to help others and ever since I began training myself, I knew being a professional in the fitness industry was what I was meant to do (Purpose).

I believe what sets us apart as a company is the passion in the message and in the personal attention to a client and their goals. I always tell my clients I’m more than just their trainer and that they’re more than a body or health goal. I really try to be there for anything they could possibly need when it comes to bettering themselves or their lifestyle and habits. We’re still developing the brand and apparel only because Covid-19 stalled the potential production and I geared my focus more towards the Personal Training side of the company and message of a brand.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like you can thrive in almost any city with Personal Training so long as you have the passion for helping others, especially as online has become increasingly popular, but as far as a brand, I think it’s a great place to start a brand. There are so many artistic communities, places and local artists throughout Dallas and the surrounding areas.
