Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Jones.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Crystal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While attending grad school in Houston, TX, I started praying to God about becoming an entrepreneur in addition to having a career after I completed school. At the time I was undecided on what I wanted to pursue in my entrepreneurial journey, again I started praying and fasting about it!
One day I was reading a magazine after getting home from school and I came across a story about a mother losing her ten-year-old son to cancer. In the story, there was a picture that the photographer captured of the mom and son together holding hands after his death. It wasn’t the picture that got me, it was the way the photographer was able to design and include such an angelic figure of the son holding his mom’s hand. I cried like a baby after seeing that picture..lol. From that moment, I knew that God had answered my prayers in what I wanted to pursue. I was meant to be a photographer!! The thought of being able to capture peoples’ most precious moments brings me absolute joy!!
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road by any means..lol. The biggest struggle for me is learning how to balance being a mother, working a 9 – 5 job, and pursuing my dream of becoming a serial entrepreneur. Over the years I’m learning that prioritizing is the key to a balanced life.
Tell us more about your work.
The name of my company is the Essence of Creation Photography and I specialize in lifestyle, branding and portraiture photography. I am most proud when I see my clients are happy and completely satisfied with my services. The thing that sets me apart from others is that I’m able to engage my clients in such a way that they feel comfortable and I’m able to help bring out their confidence during the sessions.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In this male-dominated industry, I definitely see a trend of more black female photographers hitting the scene!! The use of drones is becoming very popular now and the ability to operate one is a valuable skill set to have as a photographer.
