Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Russell.
In 1987, increasing energy costs and greater environmental awareness provided the basic market need to introduce an exciting, yet relatively unheard of technology to the general public. Stimulated by the prospect of changing the way the world insulates, Dan Russell founded Innovative Insulation, Inc.
The company started by first marketing one type of reflective insulation to home owners in the Fort Worth, Texas area. Within the first year, distributors were established throughout the country. The company ended its first year with sales of more than one half million dollars.
Over the next few years, the product line of Innovative Insulation was expanded to include several grades of reflective insulation, as well as reflective bubble insulation. The company’s trademark product, Super R®, became synonymous with reflective insulation. Soon the marketing base for the company expanded around the world to include the construction, packaging, and transportation industries. Innovative Insulation is continuing to open other markets with insulating challenges and meeting enthusiastic customers on a daily basis.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While it hasn’t always been a smooth road, Innovative Insulation prides itself being on the cutting edge of the radiant barrier industry. After developing an extensive line of products, the hardest part comes down to addressing each customer’s specific needs.
The struggles we have overcome deal mostly with building codes in specific states. The entirety of the code battles we face deal mostly with integration concepts and making sure each building meets building code. This hasn’t always been easy, but Innovative Insulation has always come out on top of each battle.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Innovative Insulation – what should we know?
We are the leading manufacturers and distributors of radiant barrier technology and reflective insulation. We are the most proud of our customer service. We always make sure we address every specific need of our customers, and pride ourselves in making sure the customer gets exactly what they need.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
By always creating new products and addressing each obstacle as they come. Every building needs something different. Some need vapor barriers, some need air barriers, and some people just want lower electricity bills. The key to our success is taking the problem a customer faces and dealing with it head on. After seeing a need for radiant barriers in the agriculture industry, Innovative Insulation Inc. developed our Ag Barrier – a specific product line to address the growing problems in the agriculture industry.
Many farmers are facing a growing problem – the “black-globe effect”. Simply put, animals feel heat the same way humans do. With that being said, animals feel the same heat stress humans do. Whenever temperatures get too hot, animals become less productive. Innovative Insulation Inc. set out to specifically tailor a product to deal with this problem – thus, Ag Barrier was born.
