Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Rollins.
Dana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved cakes and I decided one day that I wanted to decorate them. I saw a decorating class at a local craft store and decided to enroll. When I mentioned it to my mother she asked “when do we start?” We have had several businesses together in the past, so we’re always each other’s business partner.
We worked from home for two years and after building up our customer base we opened our retail store. We had the store for 5 years and met a lot of great people and created some great cakes. The rigorous schedule and growing overhead forced us to close our doors. It was a hard decision but the best for my health and family life. We are operating again on a smaller scale as a home based business. This allows me the freedom to create and still be around my family. I have the best of both worlds now.
Has it been a smooth road?
No we had challenge along the way like most new business owners. I dedicated a lot of sweat equity and made a lot of sacrifices to keep things going. I used my own money and if I had the chance to do it over I would use someone else’s money.
This would have allowed me to hire the necessary help needed to keep me from stretching myself too thin.

Delicious Designs Cakes & More or DD Cakes as we are affectionately called is a home based bakery specializing in custom cake designs. I am most proud of the many customers who have allowed our cakes to be the centerpiece of their special life events. We offer and beautifully designed cake which also tastes great.

Our city is great for bakeries. Many people are looking for something to wow their friends and family.
