Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Bertrand.
Danielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. My husband, I recently moved to Dallas in 2019. I got started in business because I wanted to own my own dance studio. I loved dancing and teaching others how to. I earned my B.A. in Business Management with a concentration in Small Business and Entrepreneurship. I also earned my Master’s in the Art of Teaching. Business and teaching became my passion. I decided to couple those things and begin doing start-up business coaching for female entrepreneurs. I wanted them to have a voice in the world and someone helping them that was truly on their side and wanted to see them win. I was also introduced to business at early because my mom owned a children’s clothing boutique, D & D Boutique, named after my brother Daniel and myself. I enjoyed watching transactions happen and learned early; that was the way life worked.
I never planned to become an author but God had other plans. For five years before I wrote “Girl, It’s Go Time.” I had written in my journal daily. I truly believe that is what helped me push through and finish the book. “Girl, It’s Go Time” truly spoke to me because I had begun to live a life full of routine. I needed a change. The words “Girl, It’s Go Time” rung in my spirit. The book was published in July 2019 and also includes a 21 day devotional.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Everything has not been smooth sailing. There are always bumps in the road. My biggest struggle was right out of college. I thought I could just start a business. I had no finances, no coach or mentor; all I had was my degree. So I knew how to run a business in theory but not how to put all the pieces together to make it profitable. Needless to say, it was a flop. That was a real disappointment for me. I thought I could never own a successful business. After taking a few years away from trying to start a business when I finally came back to the dream, I now had a strategy. I knew what it took and how to achieve my goals. I had the confidence I needed to push through and make sure I was successful.
As any of us go on the entrepreneurial journey, there will be lots of lessons learned. The key is investing in yourself and not just in your business to make sure you have the tools to overcome the stumbling blocks.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
“Girl, It’s Go Time” was created to empower women to get off the sideline and go after everything with their name on it. Many women put their dreams to the side to take care of all those around them. That can be fulfilling but at some point, they begin to feel like they aren’t truly living out their purpose. The book “Girl, It’s Go Time” will ignite that spark in women to do more.
I also do start-up business coaching for female entrepreneurs. That part of the business is called “The Launching Pad.” It is meant to equip female entrepreneurs to withe the tools to be successful. I couple my love for business and teaching to ensure all my clients have a unique growth experience in their businesses. I offer various coaching packages and courses that will ensure that their idea will come from their mind to the marketplace successfully. To aid in this success, I offer payment plan options for coaching packages. I understand that many can be tight but I don’t want finances to stop any women from getting the help they need and desire.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as control of your time, money and resources. Being able to decide how you want to spend those things without having to ask anyone is successful to me. I also define success as progression each year. I strongly believe you should not be in the same place from year to year. In school, we progress from grade level to grade level every year, which should continue throughout life. If you are at a job, your pay and or title should progress each year. If you own a business, your revenue should increase each year. Your relationships shouldn’t remain at a surface level. They should continue to get deeper and the relationship progresses. Each year, I look back at where I was the year before if there hasn’t been a progression, I get to work.
