Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Fountain.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Darius. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I know myself to be someone who tries different things, therefore I was never able to stick to one thing. There was a point in my life where reality kicked in, I had to find something I enjoyed doing, and not video games but something I could be proud of. Fitness happens to be something I enjoy doing, not only am I a beast at fitness, but I am blessed to have the luxury of having a dad that’s a wellness coach and also a personal trainer. The empty feeling I felt was dragging me down, I needed to be happy and wanted to find what was missing.
Pops and I had a videographer who created and shot videos for us, photoshoots, interviews the whole shebang. Everything was going well, content was being put out consistently, the fitness community was diggin ya boy. Everything was going according to plan. The saying “all good thing must come to an end” well that took effect after several months, the videographer that’s been working alongside us vanished without a trace. Left us confused and wondering why? What had we done for this to happen? I was a bit upset on the lack of communication and the inconsideration. I had to look at it a different way though, not only was I able to find what was missing in my life, but I’m great at what I do and the skills are only getting better. Everything happens for a reason
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s never an easy hill when you’re going after something you love, especially when the resources are limited. Swallowing your pride and asking friends and family to pitch in for your first camera was hard enough, but when you’re determined nothing will stop you from what you want. Buying my first camera was the best feeling I felt in a while, finally able to get started photographing, things were looking pretty good for me. Until I realized the way my photos came out was nothing like the professionals. So after several months of shooting, I was over the camera I had and needed an upgrade not only cameras but the image quality as well, very important. The struggle of buying new camera after several months of purchasing your first didn’t seem possible. So I sold my camera and saved a bit more and bought my 2nd camera, a Sony Nex 5. I was very impressed with the quality and loved how compact the camera was. The video quality was very pleasing as well, not only was I pleased with the camera itself but I found a camera I could keep for a while. Now it was time to learn it, which wasn’t that complex, after researching every chance I got, I was able to learn the manual in just a short amount of time. Several months had past and things were going well for me but it still wasn’t enough. This time I needed a professional camera with the image quality I was looking for. I knew in order to afford a professional grade camera I had to work my butt off, which meant working 2 jobs. I’ve never been so stressed in my life, not sleeping, waking up 3a.m just to be a work at 4 getting off at 2pm then having to go to my 2nd job at 5pm and getting off at 12am. Tired was an understatement, exhausted was the word for the way I felt. When you want something, you have to be willing to do things out your comfort zone in order to obtain it. After working hard for months, I was able to save up $2000 dollars and purchase my Canon 6D that I still have til this day.
Every successful person endures a painful journey. Suffering is an essential part of any real pursuit of success. Success isn’t easy nor is it guaranteed. Every painful story has the potential to have a successful ending. You may as well accept suffering as a traveling companion, rather than resist it and create more struggle. See each day as a day that you are blessed with new chances and opportunities to start from the place you find yourself. Uncertainty and stress are inevitable. Both prompt you to make adjustments to mitigate their effects, mentoring you toward further success. A little stress can push you in a positive direction.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I started up my Photography/videography Business in 2016 based in Dallas, TX designed to help the local community afford creative, stylish and affordable photoshoots. I’m still finding my style but I specialize in Portrait & Fashion photography, also known in the community for my 90’s style shoot and editing. I’m mostly proud of the diversity I possess as a photographer/videographer such as Editing in Photoshop, Lightroom and also Premier Pro. Whatever style you’re wanting I have the ability to create it for you, along with editing to your liking. What sets me apart from others, Is the time and effort I put into my business. I made it a priority to at put at least 3hours a day into my craft. I don’t go out anymore, I’m up to 4a.m editing or researching how to become better knowing I have work at 9am. The things I sacrifice, limiting the amount of fun I have is what sets me apart from other photographers.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was Fun, energetic, and enthusiastic. I was the sweet, funny, outgoing, all the above everyone loved me. My interest ranged from all different things, such as rollerblading, using point and shoot plastic cameras, skateboarding, fishing in the local creeks and so on. Adventurous is what described me growing up.
