Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Parks.
Dave, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
There are two things that I said I would never do:
1) Never owned my own company
2) Never work with my lovely bride.
Today I own my own company and work full time with my wife.
After I left Comerica Bank in the middle of 2016 and 25 years in corporate America, my wife and I did some intense introspection into how we wanted to spend the rest of our lives. We were introduced to a book by Bob Buford entitled Half Time.
The book is a faith-based book that leads you through a process of evaluating the first half of your life and helping you make adjustments for the second half in order to guide you toward your ultimate goal similar to players and coaches in a sporting event.
After we completed the process it was clear that we wanted to accomplish three things in our second half:
1) Externally focus our talents, energy and time toward the service of others.
2) Serve our local community.
3) Positively impact the lives of those around us.
The valuable lessons and skills I have learned from Comerica, Regions, Bank One, etc. combined with Gene’s nursing background will be a powerful combination as we seek to help those families caring for their loved ones by owning and operating a nonmedical senior home care agency called Home Care Assistance of Fort Worth. We serve the Tarrant County and surrounding area and are located in Colleyville, Texas.
Our first official day of complete ownership was Monday, March 6th, 2017 and I have met many fascinating people and seen how we can help those in need. We have an outstanding staff in the office and out in the field helping clients.
I did a tremendous amount of research on this industry and frankly, there are a lot of good companies in this space but none of them come close to the offerings of Home Care Assistance. Although Home Care Assistance is clearly a differentiated company, both Gene and I know that our success will not be based on our “offerings” but on our commitment to those we serve and the quality of our care.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every day is a unique experience and blessing in serving the senior community. Their wants and needs are similar to all other demographic groups. Things such as safety, health, and happiness. Our purpose is to help them attain these things.
To be successful in this business it is imperative that the owner is involved in the day to day operation of the business. My wife and I have spent days and nights at the local hospital when a family is not available to support a senior. We have counseled seniors through many tough times. We consider ourselves a resource for those working their way through the senior industry maze.
Please tell us about Home Care Assistance of Fort Worth.
Home Care Assistance is the leading provider of in-home care for seniors. We work closely with family members to provide older adults with quality care that enables them to live healthier, more independent lives at home. In short, we keep seniors happy, healthy, and safe in their home, wherever they call home. About 1 out of 4 of our clients live in a senior community.
Home Care Assistance Caregivers are trained in our proprietary Balanced Care Method, a holistic approach to longevity that promotes healthy mind, body, and spirit. In addition, we offer a one-on-one activities-based program designed to keep aging minds sharp called the Cognitive Therapeutics Method. Our caregivers are trained to do the activities in the comfort of our clients home.
Our clients receive concierge level service through our full care and staffing team, which includes a Client Care Manager. Client Care Managers ensure the highest standard of care for the length of service and are available 24/7 for your peace of mind.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We are not perfect by any stretch but we bought into a great company and have been very pleased with the results. We have learned that there is no shortage of care but there is a shortage of quality care which we are helping fill that gap.
