Meet Desiree Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Sanchez.

Hi Desiree, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally from West Texas, I got started sewing at a very young age. Quickly mastering this craft, it sparked something in me and I knew I wanted to be a creative artisan of some sort. I have dabbled in many innovative trades, from fashion designing to cake making, and creating some of the biggest homecoming mums in Texas! Eventually, I came full circle getting back into sewing and creating one-of-a-kind original and reworked fashion. Today, I still have a deep love for clothing and accessories which has now ignited a new and more entrepreneurial side of myself leading me to where I am today. Now, my focus is not only as a creator but also as a small business owner. Thus far, 2022 has brought me the debut of my “boho-western” style boutique My Bohemian Lover and I am ecstatic to see my hard work grow into a dream!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have definitely had my fair share of struggles. However, I have learned that obstacles are not only a part of owning a business but life in general! It’s all about learning to ride the wave. Taking the battles as they come, and learning how to conquer them. My challenges have varied from small problems such as deciding which tags to use on my products, to larger ones like figuring out how to acquire legal paperwork to actually call my boutique a business, and everything in between. Trial and error is where I find most of my answers, and not to mention…Google! One thing I keep in mind is that everyone is a beginner at some point!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am proud to call myself the owner/ founder of the “boho-western” style boutique that is known as “My Bohemian Lover!” A few things we specialize in is comfortable, colorful, and timeless fashion & accessories. I would say we are best known for our gorgeous bags! The bags we sell are vibrant, unique, and include genuine textiles such as hand-tooled leather & hides of various shades. One thing that sets me apart is how I choose the items that I want to put in my shop. The products that are available in my store are a direct reflection of myself. I do not oversaturate my inventory with fast fashion or items that I would not personally wear. Another element that sets us apart is our availability of concealed carry fashion!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Network, network, network! It is so important. These days it’s nearly impossible to get noticed on social media “organically” unless you end up going viral. A few tips I have to share are…use hashtags, run ads, be interactive on your accounts, and record/ photograph everything! You never know who is watching your videos and who will fall in love with your products.

As far as finding a mentor, surrounding myself with likeminded individuals has been a huge motivator for me. The key to learning from others in your same field is realizing that they are not your competition: but rather a source of knowledge!
