Meet Eduardo Rojas of Rojas School of Music in Grapevine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Rojas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Originally from Colombia, I never dreamed that one day I would be the Founder and Owner of my very own school of music in the United States. I grew up playing the piano from the age of 4 at home with my dad as my first piano teacher. After many struggles and lots of hard work and dedication, I became very famous in my home country as a concert pianist traveling all over South America performing. In 2006, I made the very difficult decision to move to the United States to further my piano studies with some of the best teachers in the world at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas. Over the next several years after finishing my studies at TCU I worked at many local colleges, schools, and universities as well as large organizations such as the Fort Worth Opera in addition to continuing my career as a concert pianist performing in Michigan, Miami, New York, Taiwan, and more.

During this time, I was continuously looking for ways to make a bigger contribution to my community and society and did not gain that opportunity through my work at the colleges as much as I had hoped. As both of my parents were educators, I naturally gravitate towards working with students of all ages and working with them to accomplish their goals. It was this passion for teaching that lead to the creation of my own school, Rojas School of Music.

I started the school with my wife who has extensive background in education herself in August of 2014 with only 3 students. The school slowly began to grow over time and now we have almost 200 students and 13 teachers on various instruments. We just opened our brand new facility in Grapevine, Texas and are excited to see what the future holds for Rojas School of Music.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with anything successful, there are always struggles both large and small. From the beginning, growing up in a third-world country, moving to the conservatory without parents at the age of 13, and moving to the United States at the age of 26 with no English, I have encountered many obstacles along my path.

When we started Rojas School of Music, it was not easy to begin from scratch with a new business and figure out how to grow naturally and in ways that allow us to maintain high-quality standards over time. I work hard to always find new ways to inspire our students and contribute back to our community and to keep the vision always moving forward.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rojas School of Music story. Tell us more about the business.
Rojas School of Music offers private music instruction on several instruments including piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, ukulele, and voice. In addition to offering lessons at our studio in Grapevine and our satellite location in Keller, we also offer private lessons In-Home and work in collaboration with a local charter school in Flower Mound to provide after school orchestra programs for elementary students and private lessons on campus.

We also offer “Baby and Me” classes for parent and child beginning at age 0 though age 4. By beginning music education from birth, Rojas School of Music begins to establish auditory pathways and cortical organization in the brain. Music is a language that needs to be developed from an early age. As with any language acquisition, the earlier you begin the better. Our programs continue students’ music education from birth to adult.

Beginning this summer, we will also be the home of the newest Yamaha, state-of-the art, Piano Lab technology. Our Piano Lab summer camp and classes allow students to utilize and incorporate the best technology available alongside learning the piano. As they learn instrument technique and receive individualized instruction, students also learn how to use the equipment and transfer that knowledge at home. The group lab environment gives students the opportunity to collaborate and work together as a group but also gives the teacher the flexibility to provide individualized one-on-one instruction/mini private lessons.

We provide 4 recital opportunities per year and offer music theory training for our students participating in the Texas State Music Theory Testing each year. We have teachers for students of all abilities from beginner to professional.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in working hard, studying, practicing, and being prepared when an opportunity presents itself.
