Today we’d like to introduce you to Emelia Beltran, Erick Ortiz.
Emelia, Erick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
BestFoodInDallas began as a way for us to try new foods. We were used to going out to eat on weekends and would tend to always stick to a routine of either tacos or wings nothing else. We wanted to venture out into new places and share our experiences with others. It began as a way for us to find and try interesting foods around our community. At first, we would share our pictures on our personal Snapchat for our friends and family to see. As we continued to do this, we wanted to expand our audience and serve as a guide for food options around Dallas. That’s how we thought about expanding into Instagram, for others to find our page and interact with us. Now we are venturing into finding the hole in the wall places, different cultural foods, hidden coffee shops and overall we have become open to trying anything!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was smooth at first but if we wanted to expand we needed to try more places. Since we limit ourselves to only eat out on weekends, it is hard for us to obtain as much content as we would like to. It’s also hard planning and thinking about how to find these spots as we are looking for them on our own.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
BestFoodinDallas is a food blog where we share our experiences on Instagram. We first specialized in trying authentic Mexican food such as tacos, tortas, and traditional dishes. As our page began to grow we venture out to other types of foods such as Korean BBQ, seafood spots, coffee shops, ice cream shops, and overall local spots.
We are very proud of our growth and the engagement we have received from our followers. It makes us very happy that we are helping others discover spots they would never think of going. Our proudest movements are when the restaurants share our post and that alone lets us know that people appreciate our work. We are also proud that as a couple we are overcoming the obstacle in deciding what to eat.
What sets us apart is that we are not just stuck to a single food category. Our name “bestfoodindallas” allows us to be broad into the types of foods we try. There’s so much for us to capture in the Dallas area and we are doing it little by little. We are also now becoming more engaged in community food events which allows us to interact with other food bloggers. Our goal is to keep our audience engaged with us by listening to their suggestions and opinions. We have created a suggestion form link where the audience can list their favorite places for us to try. In the next couple of months, we are expanding into other social media platforms for others to see our adventures as well. We are planning to create a website where we can have more information about our post in the near future.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Seeing our followers engaging with us and commenting things like, “definitely trying this” makes us feel like we are having an impact in our small community. Also, our following has increased rapidly in a short period of time. This lets us know that we are on the right path.
