Meet Emily Nemeth of Bathroom Saga in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Nemeth.

Emily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Bathroom Saga started in the bathroom of a hotel lobby in downtown Dallas when my two best girlfriends walked in and we took a mirror selfie. From that night on Bathroom Saga began from a string of random coincidences of being in cool places with cool bathrooms. The Saga gained momentum the beginning of 2017 as I started traveling frequently and kept finding myself in unique bathrooms. I started posting photos to my personal Instagram account and shortly after then, started the official Bathroom Saga Instagram. Instagram started an interactive experience between me and the world of Instagram. There became an online community who had the same thing start happening to them, they found themselves in cool bathrooms! Bathroom Saga then became a platform to feature not only my bathroom finds, but others’ out there too. In time, through my professional experience in the print world, marketing and sales a coffee table idea was birthed and now we have Bathroom Saga as we know it; a coffee table book featuring unique and awesome bathrooms.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Bathroom Saga definitely had its challenges along the way. As the author, self-publisher, and self-promoter I had to wear many hats in curating the success of Bathroom Saga. Taking photos of bathrooms was the easy part as photography came natural for me. Once the book started to become alive there were many new skills I had to attain to design the actual book. I had brief experience in graphic design but not to the extent of creating an entire coffee table book. In saying that, there was a week in July of 2018 I locked myself in my loft and didn’t leave until the entire thing was designed. Even after that many things have been a learning process from consignment contracts to finding a distribution company who would take a no name author to getting my book on shelves in Barnes and Nobels.

Bathroom Saga – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bathroom Saga features unique and awesome bathrooms. Not all of them are pretty, not all of them are clean, but all of them are real. I’ve enjoyed that Bathroom Saga has not just been my own experience but a collective of others’ experiences in finding cool bathrooms in cool places or in some cases, just places with a toilet.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment for me as an author has been getting the opportunity to have Bathroom Saga sold in Barnes and Nobels stores. This is something that felt very unattainable as a self-published author having no experience under my belt. It was very rewarding when I received the letter from B&N accepting my book into their stores.
