Meet Emily Poste of Vera Glass Imagery in Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Poste.

Emily, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Photography on such a whim. I was a banker in Canada for ten years and always had this urge to be creative and to do more than what I was doing. I also always wanted to be my own boss. My husband was finally the one who pushed me towards Photography…and I am so thankful. I have tried a lot of artistic mediums throughout my life, but for the first time, I feel as though Photography allows me to really communicate the emotional mess I am inside.

Has it been a smooth road?
Oh …oh…SO not smooth. When I started this journey I had a brand new baby and a one-year-old… I lived somewhere where I barely knew anyone. I knew nothing about lighting, editing or photography in general. And guess what … I HAD NO ONE TO TEACH ME! So, I taught myself and thank goodness that I seem to have some kind of a natural eye that helped me find my way through this huge learning curve.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Vera Glass Imagery story. Tell us more about your work.
My business is Photography with a specialty in Boudoir Photography and that would be what I am most known for at this point. I am most proud of how much I have grown and how much I have learned in such a short amount of time with such little help. A lot of my success is built on word of mouth. What sets me apart is that I am an aggressively friendly people person LOL that is able to make these women who could otherwise feel very uncomfortable…you know because they’re being photographed half-naked by a stranger…. feel super comfortable to the point where they are laughing and chatting. I have never had a client not leave completely radiating self-confidence.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Um, I hope it continues to grow. Boudoir is SO empowering for women and I love being part of their experience. I hope I continue to learn and grow and branch out into different areas. I want to be known as someone who can shoot anything! And I would love to have my own studio one day!
