Meet Emma Bealle of Pen Meets Paper in Highland Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Bealle.

Emma, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had a love for all things creative. Four years ago, as a freshman in high school, I took full advantage of the tutorials available on YouTube, subscribed to a skillshare site, and began practicing and refining the art of modern calligraphy and watercolor. After increasing interest and requests from friends and family, I decided to take the next step and turn these skills into a small business called Pen Meets Paper. I began selling note cards and personalized products, then started participating in local art fairs. It has been challenging only being a high school student, but incredibly rewarding to grow Pen Meets Paper. I’ve expanded my business into teaching art classes, designing t-shirts, wedding signage, and doing birthday parties.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have learned a great deal about the organization, budgeting, time management, customer service, and marketing. Operating my business while being a full-time student and athlete is difficult at times, but I love doing it. Without my family, the business could not have been possible before I could even drive my mom would go to the store to get products for me as orders would come in. Working around a school schedule can be challenging, but I have learned to adapt and make it work.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pen Meets Paper story. Tell us more about the business.
Pen Meets Paper is a hand lettering and watercolor business. I find inspiration everywhere and I am constantly adding new products depending on current trends and customer requests. The personalized nature of my business allows me to be a small part of special moments in people’s lives, like baptisms, weddings and birthday parties. Most of my customers are local and I enjoy getting to work personally with people to create the perfect gift.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I will be going to college next year and I am excited about the new products and trends that will fit into that demographic and new town. I am always monitoring current trends and listening to my customer’s input. I also enjoy experimenting with new mediums and technologies.
