Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Chappell.
Emma, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My very first job was at a stylish flower shop in Dallas’ unique Bishop Arts District. My mom actually insisted that I go check out this new hip flower shop and I fell in love, moms always know best, right? I knew nothing about flowers but I quickly became obsessed. I started as an intern learning basic skills like how to care for flowers, making daily arrangements for clients and then delivering them. I worked my way up to taking on more serious projects for the company and consulting with new brides. After spending many years in a flower shop setting honing my craft, I then made the transition into the world of weddings. I free lanced for local companies meeting as many industry folk as I could, which led me to traveling with some local and out of state companies that were assisting with million-dollar weddings — well, maybe not a million, but we are talking huge, over-the-top and fabulous weddings. After years of the hustle and bustle of freelance life, I decided to start my own company Emma Caitlyn Creative. Running my own business is no easy feat, but being able to design custom arrangements that are tailored to each bride (& their special day) makes all the difference. When I’m not planning the next wedding, you can find me around town making fresh floral crowns – from swinging by Community Beer Company to setting up shop at Fair Park’s Discovery Gardens or just at a local birthday party. I love meeting new people and sharing my love for all things floral.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily, yes! I am so new to having my own business and have been so fortunate to work with amazing brides and clients. I thrive knowing that everything depends on me – from my first consultation with the bride, to handpicking the flowers for the big day and sending the bride down the aisle with her beautiful bouquet. Don’t get me wrong… I definitely feel a lot of pressure, but I can’t imagine spending my days any other way. Even when I have a long day or things aren’t going the way I intended, just knowing my art is a part of a monumental life event is an unforgettable and special feeling.
Emma Caitlyn Creative – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
When a bride decides on Emma Caitlyn Creative for their wedding, they will receive a one-of-a- kind look that draws from their inspiration and my experience. I am a firm believer that no two weddings are ever the same! With so many years of freelancing with a variety of event planners and floral companies, I’ve perfected so many different styles – from the classic to boho, Emma Caitlyn Creative gives the bride a custom experience that is not found anywhere else. And many times, I create a unique, lasting friendship with my brides and that allows me to grow my business.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’ve only been in business since the beginning of 2018, but I have been blown away with the support I’ve received. It’s really hard to pinpoint just one moment! I think first (and foremost), the proudest moment is finally having the courage to take that nest step of starting my own business. For years, my friends, co-workers and family would always tell me, “You have the talent; now be your own boss!” Taking that leap was really scary but it was the best decision I ever made. And as cheesy as this might sound, I am so proud after completing a wedding- this feeling usually happens after handing the bride her bouquet or after the first look with the bride & groom. I had a bride once say to me, “I never knew flowers could be this pretty and unique!” That was amazing to hear, and I know I can continue spreading happiness through my art.
