Meet Ericka Estrella Chick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ericka Estrella Chick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Ericka. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Of course! I will try my best to summarize. I’ve loved photography for as long as I can remember, every family event, every birthday, photos have always been a big a part of my life, my camera being a sidekick, something outside to hold moments in time, like magic, till this day I find it fascinating in every way.

I believe it is also in my blood, my Great Grandfather was a photographer from France, who moved to Ecuador in early 1900. Until this day you can google many of his Photographs by searching Filemon Froment I think it carries on my fascination with French pastries and absolutely every type of coffee or coffee shop there is, like my Great grandfather, I also relocated away from my native place Ecuador, to the US in 2007, continuing my journey into adulthood both working and attending several Photography courses such as The CAC of Dallas and a South-American photo journey in 2010 to multiple countries to explore, expand and photograph anything from people to places to food, etc. My now-husband, (Writer/Filmmaker) co-creator of 3rd Identity Films, joined me halfway on the trip and ever since we have had the joy of working in the same field and making a life out it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been amazing!! Fears: yes, Challenges, yes! but I read something incredibly helpful right before going full time with Photography as a career, that stayed with me like a tattoo on the soul.

“Do everything with joy, accept taxes, paperwork with joy, and consider everything an important part, choose your favorite pen, your most colorful folder, decorate your space, and enjoy the business side as much as the other part.” Practicing this way has been fundamental to grow a business embracing all aspects of it.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
When people ask me what type of Photography does Ericka Estrella Photography do, my answer is always, Everything from Portraits, to headshots, to weddings, to behind the scenes, to commercial.

I really love it all! with so much heart<33

Many colleagues or clients find it surprising how much I absolutely adore weddings! It was a scary field to go into, but it is by far one of the most rewarding feelings!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
As a daily practice, If we look at success as a practice rather than as a goal to be obtained or a metaphorical gold Medal of fame that awaits, then like a camera, looking only at one singular goal rather than the big picture, it disrupts our focus, makes it blurry and unclear, it takes away the joy of the little things, so practice focusing on the small details of life and joy will follow through.
