Today we’d like to introduce you to Florence Brewer and Melissa Patino.
Lyssa and Flo, co-founders of Refined Flow, met at a trendy yoga studio opening in Uptown. The two connected over a Facebook post about the struggles of being a yoga instructor. Flo just spent a month in India obtaining her yoga teacher certification and wanted to encourage others to have their own refining experience. She shared this vision with Lyssa; it was an instant partnership! Within months the girls were planning a trip to research Bali, Thailand, and Singapore. Since that first trip in 2015, they’ve set an intention to create the business they have today. “Whether it’s a new asana, a new destination, or trying yoga for the first time, our desire is to get people out of their comfort zone and influence them to try something new!” says Flo.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It took three years to make Refined Flow a reality. Lyssa explains “Full-time jobs, the business formation process, researching travel destinations, while dealing with life’s ups and downs – we’re yoga instructors, but that was a different kind of balancing act!” Constant reminders that hard work pays off was their only motivation at times. And it did! What started out meshing their passions of travel and yoga together, has turned into a platform to empower others.
Please tell us about Refined Flow – what should we know?
Refined Flow host domestic and international retreats. Lyssa states “daily yoga classes are provided for the variety of physical and mental benefits. As well as excursions are planned so everyone feels the local and cultural vibe of each destination”. Planning services for yoga instructors, organizations, and special interest groups looking to host their own retreats are also offered.
Refined Flow is known for their inclusive nature. You will always find a diverse group on their trips. These girls certainly keep the seasoned and novice traveler in mind. For the seasoned traveler, pack your bags and meet them in Bali! For the novice traveler, detailed itineraries, to-do lists, excursion options, and 24-hour communication is offered to attendees.
