Meet Frankie C. Wilson Jr. of V.M. Communications

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frankie C. Wilson Jr..

Frankie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in radio while pursuing a double-major in Mass Media Communications and Business Management at Prairie View A&M University. After undergrad, I moved back to Dallas and began working as an announcer and production assistant for the number 1 and number 2 Gospel music stations in the city – KHVN and KGGR. During that same time, I was juggling a 9-5, working between both radio stations and finishing my MBA. I knew I wanted to be in business but wasn’t sure how.

Upon finishing my MBA, I was reminded of what I consider a God-given task to create a multi-layered company that provides media content for radio, creates and provides a media platform for other small business and ministries and offer opportunities for citizens to give back into their local community. From that vision, I created V.M. Communications – a media content company that produces, manages and creates content for radio media and the web. I also created what is now a multi-award-winning nationally and internationally syndicated radio show. I travel as a national speaker and am blessed to lead The Giving Project – a non-profit organization that creates projects where citizens can impact lives in their community in a private manner.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think it’s possible to understand a smooth road without having first experienced many bumps. With that said, my road was far from smooth. I learned that regardless of the degrees I had acquired, nothing compares to hard work. Creating my radio show began with multiple nights a week that would begin at 9 pm and end at 4 am the next morning.

V.M. Communications went through several iterations and will more than likely continue to evolve as we continue to grow.

The same goes for The Giving Project which started with my best friends and has grown into a movement that has served up to 1,000 people a year throughout both Dallas and Ft. Worth. As a speaker, I am blessed to now merge my experiences into antidotes that I share all over the world. I’m grateful for the struggles that have brought me to my success.

Please tell us about V.M. Communications.
V.M. Communications (Vision Media Communications), is a media content company whose main objective is to create and/or provide a media platform for small businesses and ministries. That path started with voice-over work, the media buying, media strategy to now being in partnership as a showcase presenter with South by Southwest (SXSW) and working with the likes of Warner Brothers, Tyler Perry Studios, Duncanville ISD, Dallas ISD and more. We also produce podcast and radio show.

What I’m most known for is having a microphone in front of my face, lol! I’ve been in radio for almost 20 years now, I work as a host for a multiplicity of events and travel as a speaker sharing my personal stories of success, discipline and ownership.

My success stories come from the changed lives of our radio listeners, the increased sales of our customers, the jump in bookings from the artist we work with through SXSW and especially from the “thank you’s” we receive from families we bless through our philanthropic efforts. It is an honor and privilege to carry out this vision.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Although I don’t believe in living with regrets if given the chance I would have started with an extensively detailed business plan that would have helped me count up the cost for many of the things I learned through trial and error.

I would’ve also spent much more time with strategic networking and pursued a different type of mentor that may have been outside of my intended industry as I’ve learned that success does not look a certain way and there are many things you can learn from successful people regardless of the industry.
