Today we’d like to introduce you to Freya Morani.
Freya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started back in 2011 after I got my certification from the International Center for Traditional Childbearing. I founded RootMama in 2012 in Dallas-Fort Worth. I started providing pregnancy support, childbirth education, onsite labor support and postpartum support.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a completely smooth road. Some of the struggles along the way included getting the first five births to complete my certifications, finding clients and establishing the brand.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
RootMama is a natural lifestyle company dedicated to nurturing the Black womb. We provide holistic fertility and pregnancy support information to African-centered women. We’re known for our Afro-centric company culture. Our clients are predominately Black women seeking to reconnect with their African heritage, live organic and natural lifestyles. I’m most proud at our commitment to reaching and serving Black women. I’m proud that we’ve been able to normalize and reclaim our natural birthing and parenting practice through affirmation and knowledge of self. We believe in creating self-determining families. We lead women back to themselves. They will learn to find validation from within. They learn to trust their own intuition and blossom into their own womanhood.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The demand for natural fertility and birthing services is on the rise. Most of the families moving to the Dallas area are of childbearing age. In the Black community, we still need to raise the awareness of the holistic options available to women.
