Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginger Walker.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ginger. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a native of Dallas and proudly call Fort Worth home. After graduating from Highland Park High School in Dallas I went on to Baylor where I studied Art. I unnaturally went on to have a career in Pharmaceutical sales because….bills. Over the last few years I have finally come back to the love of my life… Art (excluding Rob of course). I live in Fort Worth with my husband, Rob and our two kids, Tatum and Wade (and Maple our lab and Skippy John Jones our Chihuahua)
I have always loved art and I feel so blessed to be back doing what I love. I absolutely love color. Color is my Love Language, my therapy and my refuge. I love painting abstracts inspired by nature, travel, music and emotion. Sunsets are my absolute favorite. You can find my work at Park+Eighth, Pax and Parker, Local Design Studios and at my new studio/ gallery Galleywinter Gallery. I would love to paint you something!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The past few years have been an exciting adventure. I feel like I jumped into the deep end fast and there has been no turning back. It took many years for me to jump in though… I had a pharmaceutical career followed by Irish twins which has and still keeps me busy. I feel like I finally allowed myself the gift of creating and now I can’t stop.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ginger Ray Walker Art story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in abstract art. It is funny because it is the opposite of what I used to paint. I used to love intricate detailed landscapes and portraits and now I’m drawn to broad bold expressions of color. I love exploring new mediums. Watercolor was my first medium but more recently I mix different mediums with Inks and acrylics. I feel like my ability to connect with the client allows me to interpret what they are wanting to express in their home/space when I do commissions. I love working with people and learning their story.
I’m proud to be in several stores in Ft Worth and especially proud of my latest adventure, Galleywinter Gallery. My friend Pat Green (yes, that Pat Green) and I opened Galleywinter in May with fellow artist Cheryl Hodge. We enjoy working in a collaborative work space and showing our work in the gallery in front of our studio.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel very lucky to be doing what I love. I have a lot of friends that have supported and encouraged me to put myself out there. It’s terrifying at times but the more work and time I put into my work the more I realize even if it is just for me it is something I have to do. I believe it was Thomas Jefferson who said, “The harder I work the more luck I seem to have.”
