Meet Hanh Nguyen Jung of HighGarden Events in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanh Nguyen Jung.

Hanh, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a younger girl, I always was interested in a variety of arts but also had a business personality. I use to make origami animals and carry them in a little cooler selling them to my classmates and teachers. I have always been told I’m an artist, but I also love the business side as well. The challenge to bring your business up is something I always want and wanted to continue to challenge myself.

Just like most people, growing up, I was always lost in direction in career. As a Vietnamese, we all know that our parents raise us to go to school and become a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, lawyer, etc. But sometimes, that’s just not us. I’ve tested many career choices and decided to pursue my ideal business.

The great part of my business, HighGarden Events, it’s low monetary cost. I work with just paper most of the time. I do spend most of my time just cutting and gluing paper.

Business consists of many things such as customer service, profits and loss, marketing, etc. I think business is somewhat psychological. You have to be in the customer shoes to develop your business. From how they find you, to the ease of transaction, to how you interact with them and more. With today’s technology and social media, you can turn anything into a business. Business has never been easier than today and a great opportunity to pursue any dream.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. There are times you want to question yourself. ” Is this worth it?” , “Am I suppose to be doing this?” , “I don’t know what to do.”

The biggest struggle I encounter is motivation. When you become your own boss, it’s very tough to keep on track.
You create your own road and sometimes, you just don’t want to do anything that day. That’s just another day further away from your dream.

Another struggle is competition. You see other competition and not exactly sure how to compete. Gaining confidence is very important in building a business. Give yourself confidence that you can provide better service than your competitors. There’s a large enough market to compete in. Some rather shop at Target than Walmart.

I’m lucky enough to also have support from my husband, Daniel. Even though he didn’t believe in what I was doing, he always was positive to support me.

Please tell us about HighGarden Events.
My company is HighGarden Events. We create backdrops and structures for events and advertising. We are especially known for our Paper Flower Walls.

As a company, I am most proud to be able to provide new and fresh designs and having the process very simple.

Most luxury designs come with a hefty price tag. I want to be able to create items that typically costs an arm and a leg affordable. With our flower walls, you can create a dramatic atmosphere without having to rent additional wall decor.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Probably wear long pants! I have consistent hot glue burns on my legs from dropping flowers with fresh hot glue onto my legs.

But serious side, I wouldn’t have done anything different as this is a learning curve I had gained some knowledge from. I wouldn’t have learned improvements without errors and failures!
