Meet Hannah Witkowski and Samuel Culp of Yokyo in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Witkowski and Samuel Culp.

Hannah and Sam met at a local Fort Worth rock ‘n’ roll venue in 2018 and have been making music together ever since. Sam produced Hannah’s solo project for about a year until the two decided to rebrand and reemerge as one unit – Yokyo.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Jerry Seinfeld once said, “Sometimes the road less traveled is less traveled for a reason.”

We’ve had the normal struggles that people who try to make a career out of music experience, but for the most part, we’ve made great progress in the amount of time that we’ve been doing this. In hindsight, yes, it has been a rather smooth road.

Yokyo – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our band name is Yokyo. We do dark pop EDM music. We’re known for our bass-heavy tracks and our trippy visuals during live shows. Samuel Culp is the producer/DJ and Hannah Witkowski is the singer. We write our songs together at our home studio in Fort Worth. There’s not exactly a whole lot of EDM in Cowtown, and that definitely sets us apart from others. We are really proud of our latest release “Yokyo” by Yokyo (our debut album).

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Sam – I do not believe in success as a big picture objective but as a day to day goal. Did I create today? Are the ones I love happy? Am I happy? That is what success looks like… that and high fidelity Audio. That being said, we aim to ride this creative train as far as it will take us. I guess the markers I’m looking out for are the day that we meet our Jerry Maguire and the mass production of flying cars.

Hannah- Success for me is when I see someone in the crowd at a show that’s REALLY feeling it and whips out their best dance moves for us. Success is also being able to spend my time in this one, crazy, random life doing what I love while being able to support myself and my family. As far as markers go… SNL or touring with a heavy hitter like Billie. Those are probably the top 2 “BABY WE MADE IT” moments I look forward to.
