Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Bush.
Heather, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my photography company when my children were born. While working a full-time job and starting a photography business, I noticed that it had me away from home too many hours a week. So, at the right time, I took the leap and went full time to photography.
At that time, I jumped in and learned everything I could about all sorts of different parts of photography. After years of doing photography of all different aspects, I fell in love with newborn, children and family photography. I specialize in newborns and have a newborn specific studio in North Fort Worth and meet new families every weekend and enjoy each day.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, building a new business is never easy. Being away from my family was hard. Struggling to be a business owner 100% of the day and a mom/wife as well, caused more stress than one could imagine. I just told myself that it will be worth it! I put my heart into my craft and learning the hard way how I am not the photographer for everyone and not everyone is my client is difficult. Another struggle that I learned how to manage along the way was how to find what met me and then give that gift to my clients. I am not a wedding photographer and that is okay. Working hard on specializing in my newborn/children/family photography has given me a way to learn, grow and the way to be creative in my art.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Chunky Monkey Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
My company’s name is Chunky Monkey Photography. I specialize in newborn photography and love my children and family photography as well. When it comes to my newborn photography, I try to keep things simple and calm. I am known as the baby whisperer. It is a joy for me to meet a new family and give them the feeling that their newborn is in good hands and well taken care of. Patience would definitely be a word that describes me in my craft. No matter the age, being patient with the baby, children or even parents is what gives me what I need to accomplish the end result of beautiful images that tell a story of their moments.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The photography industry is forever changing. To remember that change is good is an important rule for me. To continue to learn new things, perfect my art that is in the “now” and to not forget where I came from. I hope to continue to build Chunky Monkey Photography and be able to meet new clients and give them the memories frozen in time that they are looking for.
